A few of you may remember my post about the back end of my boat falling off and wanted to say thank you for all of your advice/encouragement!

I started building a new rudder a couple weeks ago and am probably a couple weeks out from getting it finished up. The hole in the back end has been sealed up and I built a much stronger mounting point than the original system.

I found a template of my boats rudder and modeled a copy then 3d printed the core. Between the fiberglass and the rods I’ve added for rigidity, I’m hoping it works out well. It may be coming up to October, but I think I’ll get at least one test run before the season ends.

It’ll probably be one or two more weekends worth of work, but I think I’m close. Its been an interesting learning experience, and honestly one that I probably couldn’t have done without a 3d printer. I’m very glad I gave it a shot and didn’t dump the boat like I had initially though about

I’m about to start the sanding process. I did a bit by hand before deciding to pick up a sanding tool this week. Fingers crossed that makes the fiberglass sanding easier as well

Is that rudder for the canoe?

Thats for the Hunter 170 next to it.

That makes me wonder if I couldn’t get that canoe sailing though.

Hahaha you could name it The Tail

As in the rudder is the tail that wags the dog.

Looks great! Good luck with it. Hope it stays on.
