If the Democrats had any brains they would be hammering this in Florida media. We live and die, literally, by NOAA. It may be the only federal government benefit we all make use of.

The National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) should be dismantled and many of its functions eliminated, sent to other agencies, privatized, or placed under the control of states and territories.

This is actually on page 664, couldn’t find it without a search. OP is probably going by the text NPR published.

I don’t understand the term conservative. What are they conserving? They should call themselves regressionists.

I think you mean for the rich that own them. Some of the most conservative people I know are struggling financially.

They’re conserving a past that never existed.

Doesn’t mean they want to conserve anything. It just means they are terrified of change.

The actual word means one who conserves customs or structures in a given society, against those who wish to change them.

However, it’s worth noting that republicans no longer match this definition on most issues, since they seek a radical restructuring of society. They are practically a revolutionary party at this point, albeit not the revolution leftists like to talk about.

Power, they wish to conserve any power they can for themselves and their in-group at all costs to maintain the order of using the government to privilege nepotistic wealth concentrated to as few individuals as possible at the top of a socioeconomic hierarchy.

Historically though, before the Trump cult and the reactionary neoconservatives, conservatism was to preserve the authority of hierarchies under traditionalism and started around the time of the French and American revolutions.

Conservatives are hypocritical and they don’t conserve anything. They burn as much as they can get away with and use slick marketing to convince folks they are the good guys. That’s why they are called conservatives - the marketing works.

They have been trying this for decades, voting republican, pro oil, science and global warming deniers without the ability to afford insurance.

Fuck them. They are going to blame their misery on the Democrats somehow and DeSantis will talk shit about the federal government and right after ask for wads of money to rebuild and take credit for it.

    Fuck them.

Without project 2025 we have let them monetize the data from our weather gathering. We need to get for profit companies out of government completely imo.

The data that goes into those products comes from some satellites but also from Hurricane Hunter recon flights operated by the Air Force reserve. Those flights use highly specialized planes and specialized crews to penetrate these powerful hurricanes. It would not be so easy for the private sector to just replicate that capability.

If I understand correctly, it is more like it simply would not be available at all.

At which point, it could be up to each state or even city to provide their own service, with the communist socialist federal one having been killed. So e.g. New York City would have one for sure, I am not so sure about the rest of the state of New York (possibly those parts nearest to NYC would, whereas those further away… may not?), and buttfuc West Virginia… will simply do without. Trump has even let slip these kind of thoughts as he talks about them, e.g. disparaging how schools in, I wanna say Iowa (though it could have been Idaho or sth), won’t do so well moving forward…

Also, the efficiency is DRASTICALLY reduced, if each city only has data from its own local area to draw upon. The whole reason this stuff works in the first place is that e.g. as winds move over lets say Kansas, then Missouri, etc. but don’t cause a storm yet, but by the time they reach Virginia we know from past experience that there is a very high chance that it will, it is that sharing of that data that makes it all happen.

The thing is though, that is what “they” want (the more miserable someone is, the more easily controlled they become). And if you want anything differently… get out and vote! Even then, if they decide to push the issue at the point of a bunch of guns, it could get nasty.

Why give it away for free when private companies could profit from withholding it? Galaxy brain.
