Why only now? They had more than ten years (They should have started preparing before that idiot got elected the first time, he had made his intentions quite clear), and they should have continued preparations since then. If his tenure has shown one thing, then that the US is not a stable democracy nor a reliable ally. As long as he’s alive and can be reelected, he is a threat.

Most of this should have been done ages ago, because it’s clear the best the Democrats can/are willing to do is snooze the fascist takeover for 4 years at a time, while the underlying problem (almost half of the population are radicalised Nazis) remains.
