I’m blocking so many a day I think it’s giving me carpal tunnel, and I know it will never end. Porn is more infinite than the universe. Please dear god let me block lemmy.nsfw

You can also go in your lemmy profile and check that you want to hide all NSFW posts.

I do have the blur/hide options checked. But perhaps some posts are bypassing the hide function? I see lots of blurred porn posts still, and of course soft core is wide open

      Here have some screenshots:

I mean non-nude porn. For example a woman in a bikini with legs spread. No blurring occurs here, probably because people don’t mark it nsfw because it isn’t explicit nudity

Which is stupid. It stands for Not Safe For Work. That doesn’t just mean nudity, and I’m sure most employers wouldn’t want you looking at bikini-clad women whilst on the clock.

Edit: There were also plenty of subreddits that were completely text-based and still marked all posts NSFW. r/sex for example.

I would just filter to your subscribed content and not join instances with content like that. You’re probably never going to escape bikini-clad women if you’re filtering by all communities.

That’s the goal, yeah. Just using ‘all’ a lot right now to find active communities to subscribe to.

When I was on .ml there wasn’t really any porn at all. When I moved to .one it was like a golden shower of porn. Think I’ve blocked like 30 subs so far.

Just make an account on a server that doesn’t federate porn. Lemmy.ml or midwest.social don’t.

Lemmygrad doesn’t either, but it’s understandable if it’s not for you.

Voyager and lemmy.world here. Constant porn.

No I don’t want to turn off all NSFW because health/fitness and war reporting would disappear too. And it seems OP’s problem is that setting isn’t working in their client.

Instance blocking is absolutely required for lemmy to function, and hopefully mods will enforce keeping the incels in their own little instances.

Strongly agree. It’s a pretty basic feature that would give users a lot of agency over their experience. Apparently memmy has this in the works it just hasn’t been pushed to the App Store yet.

This is one of those things that people have been asking for for forever (I hate that that’s grammatically correct. That too) on Reddit. Would be really, really nice to have more specific NSFW tags

I also am on kbin.social, and I do not even have the “Hide NSFW content” turned on, and I almost never see it. I haven’t had to block anything (maybe once?), and in the <1/1000 chance it pops up, it is blurred by default.

It can randomly show up in the Active People area though.

Lemmy/Kbin is a wild, uncharted frontier, still alpha version software and very much in active development, it does not just “take care of people” like Reddit and Twitter did - you may want to not browse it at work then. Also, even if you successfully blocked every single porn magazine, as you see a new one could come up and blow up your entire All feed at any point in time -> that approach was never going to be 100% successful.

So it may be worth the pain of switching to Kbin, b/c that will work? Note that you will lose everything that way - account migration is something promised but not yet implemented iirc - but you can still see all of the communities you subscribed to before, from the new server (you will just have to subscribe to all of them again, plus block all the others, like I unsub from every foreign-language one that I see).

lemmy.blahaj.zone has defederated from lemmy.nsfw if you don’t mind changing instances. The local tab has a lot of queer content tho if you’re not into that (but you can just ignore that tab and use All or Subscribed, of course).

  • @bcrab

It needs to be easier to block those communities.

I hate having to tap into a community in order to block it. If I don’t wanna see that shit, I definitely don’t want to have to see MORE of it in order to block it.

We should be able to long press on a post or community name from the main feed, and be able to block the community from that popup menu.

    • @monsoonstorm
      link

I was literally coming to suggest this.

Please, please, please add this as a feature. I am getting an insane amount of porn and I’m actually wondering if it’s a byproduct of me having to open that community to block it…? The worst part of having to open the community page is that whilst the pictures in the threads are blurred, the community icon isn’t, and they are often NSFW also.

Like OP, I like to stay on all at the minute because I want to find new communities. It feels like blocking porn and sport communities has become a part-time job (mostly porn). No qualms about sport, it’s annoying but I’ll plod on, there’s a finite amount of teams in the world lol. The porn however is limitless…

As an aside, is there a limit to the amount of communities we can block?

I think one of the bigger problems with the fediverse is that theres no way to mass filter content.

By default/main language would be a big one, porn second.

I haven’t seen a single NSFW post since I’ve toggled it off. I have had to block a couple bot accounts that have been posting porn in comments, but that is a mod issue, not a Lemmy one.

        • @Xabis
          link

Yeah, not sure. More than likely an intermittent or environment specific bug.

For me, nsfw content appears in my thread despite the toggle being enabled. It also appears blurred so it’s not like Memmy doesn’t know about it or anything.

I’ve reinstalled the app as well and that doesn’t help.

I guess I could just turn it off at the account level but there are sometimes nsfw content that isn’t straight porn. Even spoilers are marked as such and I would miss those posts. Which is why an instance blocking mechanism would be great.

Why not just change the instance you’re a member of. A number of them have a no porn policy, so it all gets filtered at the instance level.

Agreed. It’s too much fucking porn. It just clogs up the feed. If I want to look at porn I’m not going to look at pictures; this isn’t the 90s.
