The first teaser for A Minecraft Movie released in September to some decidedly mixed reactions, particularly concerning the CGI and character design and especially Jason Momoa’s hair. And yes, there were many ridiculous memes. We were inclined to give it a chance based on the casting of Momoa and Jack Black. Now the full trailer has dropped, and honestly, odd design choices aside—and they are indeed odd—it looks like a perfectly acceptable fun family film and not much more, albeit very light on actual plot.

When will they simply understand that it should be animated?? That live-action still looks like shit.

Shoehorning an origin story into something that doesn’t have one, what could go wrong.

Why are people so angry about this movie anyways? It’s not like we’re adapting Anna Karenina over here, it’s Minecraft. My kids who play the game wanna see it, and that’s really the target audience.

Kids who played the game in 2011 are in their 20s now, and so I understand the feelings of disappointment. It comes off as a Hollywood cash grab rather than a project made by people who care about the game

Just because children don’t care about consuming garbage doesn’t mean you have to feed them garbage. Why bother showing your kids something good when they like elsa impregnating spiderman just as much?

What a snobby comment. Not everything we consume has to be Mozart lol. What a weird attempt to be outraged. It’s like you’re here specifically to judge people and start fights

If I had to nail it down to just one thing, I would say that it’s the trope of the sarcastic teenager who just makes fun of all the stuff we think is cool about the source material. The only point for a character like that is to put down the fans who are trying to like the final product and pay for tickets.

I want a movie made by fans for fans, I don’t want a movie made by Hollywood writers who only know about a product from their third cousins son and a quick glance at Wikipedia.

The sarcastic teenager trope happens so much, and we see writers and directors who are proud of the fact that they don’t know the source material so often; I’m so tired of it. It symbolizes a banal cash grab. Will the end product this time be a cash grab? I don’t know, but that’s what I don’t like so far drilled down into one specific thing.

I came around as well on my outlook of the movie. I think it helped knowing that Mumbo was partially involved in the project, but I’m still holding my breath that there will be a hyper-realistic texture pack joke involved in some way to explain all the CG.

Probably bc he broke up tenacious d after KG said the next guy shouldn’t miss in regards to the Trump assassination attempt. A lot of people thought it was a spineless move.

I think they’ve since made up and gotten back together, but I could be wrong. I think it was a number of things. Including, but not limited to:

            1. Trump supporters have guns, and in his eyes that could have put a target on his own back (having said that, they were touring Australia at the time. No one has guns there, and cancelling your tour on a bunch of fans that paid and had set time aside to see them is shitty to them)

            2. He has a lucrative Hollywood career and doesn’t want to lose work over an “extreme” view like that

            3. Maybe he was worried about being labeled a terrorist by Trump if he got elected.

I have the feeling it was mainly #2 though.

It’s 100% because he was getting all these roles for Hollywood family friendly movies (Kung fu panda 6, minecraft, mario, the dyslexic Santa movie) and didn’t want to risk losing that.

Think of all the stupid fucking things jack black has written lyrics in songs about. He kicked a dog to death in anchor man. But your long time friend makes a joke and the lawyers say it’s gonna hurt your bottom line, time to break up the band.
