Marvel Rivals has been the most fun my pals and I have had with a hero-shooter since the launch of Overwatch. It’s refreshing.
What is different/better than Overwatch in your opinion?
I’m late, but I wanted to get my pals takes on this, too. For me, the biggest thing might be being 6v6. A single extra player on each team can go a long way towards making more interesting team compositions.
Both the pals I’ve been playing with brought up the “team-up” mechanic. We’ve been having a good time playing around with these duos/trios, and there’s definitely a lot of interesting things they can do with it in the future, even if it kinda seems like a balancing headache.
Then, of course, it’s also got the value of being a Marvel IP. That’s not specifically better or worse than Overwatch, but it’s definitely already helped the game attract so many players.
I wouldn’t have the confidence to call it “the Overwatch killer” or anything, but it’ll certainly be a real competitor as Overwatch bleeds itself out.

The only thing I’ve seen about this game in any shape or form is just porn of squirrel girl.
They’ve already invaded the overwatch porn space!
I mean at this point all I see overwatch as is a rule 34 generator so the only thing me seeing about this being porn seems about right.
I legit haven’t heard anything (haven’t asked the right audience most likely) that makes Rivals a Standout in the field of Hero Shooters other than being both “new” and “not overwatch”. I understand people are probably tired of it but Overwatch is the dominant force in its field for a reason. It’s the most polished, technical, consistent, balanced (neither atk nor def overwhelmingly wins afaik), shooter in its genre. I don’t play it so I could be wrong and know its had a lot of missteps. But in this case Rivals is swinging for the king, and even though this king is long in the tooth, it better not miss.
Just like when comparing Palworld to pokemon, Rivals needs gameplay that is better not just different than OW to keep its players - or when the New Game Smell wears off people will go back to Ol’ Reliable where they have 90/100 unlocks and an established ELO for a stable MM and that will be the end of it.
To that end, can anyone tell me what makes Rivals better? What do you see it having in place that will hold you to it rather than returning to an established ecosystem of ow? I’d like to legitimately hear it out even if I don’t intend to pick it up.
