I’m surprised Moana 2 is doing as well as it is. Has word not gotten around that it’s a cash grab?

Someone I know saw it and said it has the laziest, milquetoast plot ever. It’s basically “we must unite all the creatures/people of the sea!” That’s it. No “…or they’ll all die” or any semblance of urgency or consequences. It’s the most cash grab a cash grab can be. It’s like Disney is actively trying to avoid anything “controversial” and they don’t want to mention very real things like climate change.

It’s children who see it. They don’t exactly have the reference to know that it is

Disney’s film (already $90 million better than the 2016 original) dropped 48 percent.

This type of mistake smells of an AI generated article. The 2016 film was loosely based on the story from the hit Broadway musical of the same name. The 2024 film is an actual adaptation of the musical with two top tier singers on lead. Implying that they are related is like comparing a biopic about the life of Alexander Hamilton with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘Hamilton’.
