The ones highlighted are a few examples. I’m going through. World communities so I can federate them with our instance and I’m coming across a lot of these.
They are communities with generic names like ‘Green’ and the communities have zero posts and don’t even have a Community description either.
What’s the deal?
There’s also no mods listed, how weird
If I had to guess, at least a good fraction of them are communities people duplicated after the initial Reddit exodus. At that point there was a lot of people trying to establish communities directly carried over, but if they failed to launch then they’ve probably been left to rot.
I think that’s a fair assessment for some of them. But these communities came up when i sorted by active, so that’s weird they’re recent it seems
Maybe community name scalpers.
When a service goes from “nobody will probably use this” to “this might get big” and it has unique naming capabilities, some people register a lot of them to eventually sell them off.
Makes sense
I made one for my hobby just so anyone coming from Reddit would already have a place to land. If anyone asked for the keys I’d probably give it for the fun of it. I posted a half dozen times and got one or two responses.
I feel that
The reddit migration. A lot tried to remake communities here and they just never got traction. I have one like that.
Dam they made sooo many it’s crazy
A lot wanted to bring over what they had, dont blame them. I made the one I operate thats dead for the same reasons but I actually posted to it.
If you build it, they will come.
Look at the name of this mod for one a Community called bandaid
That gives me pretty strong Little Bobby Tables vibes.
