Anker was bought a while back, and now most of their products are the same generic internals to everything else on the market. Sadly it’s just e-commerce roulette to see if you get the dud chipset or if you’re the lucky winner of a mostly functional product.

(the biggest offender here are USB hubs. Literally every single on on amazon (that isn’t for a server rack) has exactly the same components just with a slightly different pcb layout)

edit: Here’s a wonderful article wherein a nerd slowly loses their mind over this issue

I had no idea they were bought. That makes sense why their quality has been declining. I have been moving away from their stuff in the last few years.

According to some brief googling, they were bought by continum in july 2021

Use a ton of their MagSafe stuff, their travel 3-in-1 charger, the portable MagSafe battery, their other 3-in-1 charger.

I know folks have complained about their quality going down but I haven’t noticed it with their chargers. They’re still our go-to for charging

How is the heat production and ticking noise on the Belkin? I have been pretty content with a qi1 anker magnetic puck charger, but I read the qi2 from them gets pretty hot.

It gets no warmer than the Apple one. I don’t think it’s hot. I don’t hear anything from it and I have excellent hearing still. My wife’s old Qi1 Anker charger used to drive me nuts with its sound.

So far the Spigen Smart Fold 2 Magfit Wallet which I don’t like because it’s too bulky and heavy, only fits 2 cards realistically and you can’t get them out easily without unfolding the kickstand. So I don’t use it.

And the Twelve South Butterfly. It’s beautiful and nice for travel. The night stand configuration is not very stable due to the weak outer magnet but once you learn to be a bit more careful with it it’s ok.

Nevertheless I plan on buying some solid stands for bedside and home office but haven’t decided yet.

Otherwise I don’t really know what else to buy. Don’t trust it as a bike mount and don’t need it in the car.

I have a 622 battery, I use it only at work when I need to charge but cannot be at my desk. I need to find something better because it is slow and gets hot while charging. I got the larger version, I do not recall the model number. It was one of the safety recalls for fire.

I also have their MagSafe stand. It works great on my phone, but the cradle for the AirPods has to be a very specific spot for it to charge. I only got that stand because it also would charge my AirPods.

I have the 637 desktop charger on my nightstand, which looks like a sphere, and in addition to the MagSafe has three outlets, and 2x USB + 2x USBC. A couple years in and no complaints.

I don’t use anything Apple, so I can’t speak on that, but I have never once had an issue with any other Anker product, and pretty much every accessory I have is Anker. You might try exchanging the charger to see if maybe you just have a defective one.
