Many people reported they hit a screen preventing them from seeing the alert unless they signed in.

Twitter is not a public service/utility. You shouldn’t rely on it for important, factual informatilon.

it should be treated as a public service when government entities use it as a means to communicate with the public.

This communication should never be in hands of a private cooperation

Just like hurricane warnings and so on are using the system designed for such things and not just… Twitter or Facebook or something

Then the government should take it. Just like they have done with telephone lines and power lines and the internet. They should utilitize Twitter and create government jobs for technical maintenance. A publicly owned and tax maintained communication platform sounds way better than whatever Twitter is now.

Nah, fuck Twitter or what ever the hell became of it. That shithole is a dumpster fire and shouldn’t be saved, but just left to die

We need to change how governments spend money on software and networks. Don’t throw public money into private hands, use it to build up open alternatives.
            Public money, public code.

I’m not interested in disowning, I’m interested in building up a public infrastructure, that actually serves us all - as we all paid for it

Edit: whatever the fuck auto correct did…

Don’t all smart phones pretty much have amber alert reception built in natively at this point?

Yep, turned off that shit the moment I get a new phone. Like what do they expect me to do? Drive around playing vigilante?

As someone with bad noise sensitivity, I better be seconds away from a nuclear suntan when my phone makes that goddamn noise.

Yes but at least in California, details are posted by CHP (or maybe other law enforcement organizations) on Twitter. Every time I’ve clicked an Amber Alert notification, it sent me straight to Twitter.

My point is, not all the relevant information is posted in the notification you received on your device.
