Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.

Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).

I finally found a new read that I might like. It’s called Asako. It’s an age gap manga so it might not be for everyone but I’ve read a few before (My Boy and After the Rain). It has a bit of mystery to it and the plot is non-linear so that makes it more enjoyable for me. Anyway, for those interested, it’s about a man who reminisces a woman he met when he was a young boy set in a small coastal town. Her identity is a mystery however. I’m only a few chapters in and I like it so far.

I usually read light novels but last week I got sucked into a bunch of manga.

-> Captain Corinth: The Galactic Navy Officer Becomes an Adventurer Very fun adventure about a guy trying to prevent cosmic cataclysm. The MC is typical dense harem protagonist but the adventure is good enough to offset it for me.

-> Honobono Isekai Tensei Days ~Level Counterstop, Item Mochikoshi! Watashi wa Saikyou Youjo Desu First 4 volumes were very fluffy and fun but after that volume 5 and 6 got too serious for my taste and it lost it’s charm. The stakes got too high for slice of life. It still could go into interesting direction but that wouldn’t be the same story as in the beginning. I wanted something like Slime Life but it didn’t live up to my expectations.

-> I Picked Up This World’s Strategy Guide there was chapter posted in the community and art was breathtaking.

      The foreshadowing is pretty good.

I’m kind of picky with what manga I’m willing to start, but almost anything I do pick will be something I enjoy. Really appreciate this community (as well as the anime discussion one, if I see an interesting-looking anime I’ll probably look up if it has a manga first) for making me aware of a lot more manga I ended up enjoying.

I admit I don’t post myself. I have no sense of taste or quality, just “I enjoyed this” and “I did not enjoy this” and am not sure too many of my comments would be constructive. But I do think a general appreciation comment is constructive enough to post, so I am posting this ;)

Same thing here; I’d rather lurk back on Reddit. The thing is, Lemmy needs more content / participation to attract more users, so until it has reached a critical mass of users, my policy is to keep spewing bullshit. Though I’ve noticed that the more I posts, the easier it gets.

I’ve been a bit busy recently and orbited towards reading random one-shots here and there. Didn’t really find anything worth posting unfortunately so I hope you all have a better time with that.

On the other hand, the second to last chapter of Asura’s Dish of the Day came out over the weekend and I’m kind of mixed on it.

    Chapter 9 thoughts

I have two issues with this one really. First is the fact author just had to make Omori into a generic anime girl over their school break. They couldn’t be bothered to slim her down enough to make it believable but still keep her with a distinct enough design.
Two, pretty much an extension of the first point, their first kiss had to be after she became said generic anime girl because of course we can’t have them sharing such moment otherwise.

I admit I’m mostly nitpicking at this point. The series was canceled and there simply wasn’t enough time to tackle those things properly but it’s still annoying enough to make me rant, I guess.

I apologize for the delayed creation of this post, but my workload continues to be a bit insane. Here are some series I wanted to mention this week:

Not sure where this one is going yet. It is about an idol and her biggest fan, but unlike Damedol, everybody is majorly depressed. It has been a slow buildup, but I am willing to stick with this one for a bit to see how it goes after the most recent chapter.

I hadn’t planned on there being an idol theme to my post this week, but I have enjoyed the first couple chapters of this one. It’s not really treading new ground in the romcom space, but it is at least an adult romance that has their characters act like adults. They have to do things like plan around a work schedule for instance. It felt quite real when a dramatic thing happened once and the MC was basically like, I can’t deal with this now, I have to get to work, let’s circle back to it this evening…and then everybody involved did just that.

Only one chapter translated so far and I enjoyed it. I am hoping for more soon. The raws are currently partway through chapter 18, so there is content out there for our intrepid TL. I think the funniest part of this one to me is how the monsters become these equisitely prepared dishes for her to eat. I am kind of hoping that those nice prepared plates are just in her perception and she is actually just munching down on monster corpses from everybody else’s perspective.
