In theory, one would want anyone who knows certain classified info to be protected so as to not allow those secrets to be obtained by the country’s enemies
Bolton had credible threats from Iran.
Sometimes it’s necessary when they are mega assholes
Because they get a lot of hate directed at them during the course of acting under the president (historically for US interests).
Why does former anything get it?
Because they still have valuable information.
Also, if former employees weren’t provided with protection than it would be tough to fond new folks to do those jobs.
