EDIT: Trump and Columbia seems to have come to an agreement where the Tariffs have now been canceled.

I’m leaving this post up for posterity’s sake. We just need to wait for the next opportunity to push. I’m still confident that Trump and co will dramatically misstep soon and leave an obvious opening. But for now, we should get our meme-skills up and ready. I’m still supportive of large-scale real-world messages, be they stickers or chalk messages or even simple notifications that point out Trump’s political missteps.

First off: condolences to any Colombian who is harmed by these events. We have a Colombian in our family and I certainly fear for her safety and her way of life. She’s the nanny to my nephew, and there’s a solid chance this shit won’t be fixed in time for her Visa renewals, so she’ll be effectively deported due to these events. I understand that Trump’s latest actions today are frightening, but we need to focus on the political messaging needed to swing the tides back into our favor.

As Donald J. Trump tariffs the USA’s #2 trade partner in Coffee (remember, Coffee CANNOT grow in the USA outside of like Hawaii), we can all expect coffee prices to shoot up by 25% in the near future. This is the inflation event we need to begin rubbing shitty marketplace inflation into the MAGAT’s faces.

Coffee is one of the most essential of luxury goods consumed in the USA. Everyone drinks it, and we need to be ready to pin the coffee price hikes on Trump’s shitty policy.

So, what’s the plan people? What’s the best meme we can make a sticker and print en masse. Coffee Shops seem like a liberal safe-haven, it shouldn’t be too hard to ask Baristas to post up signs (or little protests) indicating that coffee shops are against the Columbian Tariffs.

Like I really think this has real action available. Even a sign that says “Due to recent Tariffs, we have been forced to increase the price of our coffee by 25%”, and that’s it. We don’t need to make it incredibly related to Trump, its implicit in Trump’s actions. We need the public to know how Trump is affecting them, but without necessarily rubbing it into their faces.

Republicans certainly aren’t going to do that this time around.

We need to start making the memes.

Look, I’m not good at this but its a start.

Ideally we want a meme that doesn’t diminish the American Flag. We need to wedge Trump as the weirdo who is non-normal to American values. So that’s where the idea for Elon Musk’s Nazi Salute can be useful. But Elon Musk distracts from the issue as a lot of leftists still believe in him for pushing EVs so much.

Focusing on Trump might be our best move here. Either way, we need to be the meme creators here. No one else is going to do it.

If using that picture maybe just crop out the American flag. Also when relating to Trump saying “American coffee” might be too long winded for the target audience. “Make Coffee Expensive Again”

Yeah, that was my first meme in this topic. It’s bad for a lot of reasons.

But still, making a bad meme to get other people thinking is still useful. I’m definitely liking my last one: covfefe tariff the most. I think “Covfefe Tariff” has by far the most promise.

I agree and I do like that better! I just wonder if that resonates most with the already politically informed. Better than nothing of course, it gets the ball rolling!

The ideal audience would probably be centrist “I don’t follow politics” people. For that audience keep in mind they may not be aware of “covfefe” but things like “I did that” or just a quote of him saying he’s not interested in addressing grocery prices while pictures of egg prices and coffee prices go up in the background would resonate with any audience

Those people will shutdown on the meme format and stop listening to you.

A simple sign saying: “We apologize for the tariff based increases to coffee prices” probably goes the furthest for the people who don’t follow politics. We don’t want to bring up Trump (or other politics) because it shuts their brains down.

You need to try to sound as neutral as possible to convince those people. Saying the least number of ‘political words’ is to your advantage in those cases.

The meme is preaching to the choir. But if you haven’t noticed, the choir is demotivated. We need some memes to make people laugh and have fun again.

We don’t need to make it incredibly related to Trump, its implicit in Trump’s actions.

No, you totally do need to explicitly call out Trump. It’s that over estimating of the public’s consciousness that got us where we are.

“Due to Trump’s tariffs, we have been forced to increase prices.”

Also 10,000 stickers with “I raised this price! with Trump giving a thumbs up” would be a good start. Marketing requires repetition to work. It’s why Coca-Cola still does advertising despite being a global brand that everyone recognizes.

Before the stickers are made, we need the right image and the right meme format.

Just my first draft. I dunno how Nazi we want to make this (Attacking Elon for the Nazi Salute might also be an interesting angle). But Trump himself directly is related to this Columbian Coffee Tariff. So its something we can ping Trump on directly…

I’m not an artist. But I’m reasonably confident in my writing skills.

“Due to Trump’s tariffs on Columbia, we have been forced to increase prices.”

“Trump Tariffs” is too generic and I don’t think people will get it. But getting really specific to the Columbian issue will make sense as people realize where Coffee fucking comes from.

Trump Tariff is specific enough because it will cover all the other tariffs that are coming.

Making it about Columbia gives the impression it is Columbia that is a problem, not Trump.

Likely coffee that was grown somewhere else, roasted in Canada and later sold to someone in the US.

The Au Pair program is about celebrating American values and trying to find elite immigrants to come to America.

This nanny is on her way to becoming a fucking Doctor. She would have been great here in USA and is the kind of people we were trying to bring in to fix our busted economy (not enough doctors or nurses).

USA has a worker shortage, especially in child care and health workers. There aren’t enough American workers in these industries.

Importing pro-American elites from Columbia (or wherever) serves us far more advantage than not.

EDIT: In any case, if you know of any infant-trained live-in nannies with strong English skills, I’m all ears. But uhhh… they’re pretty rare dude. The fact that you’re effectively deporting them is going to fuck our economy.

Here is a thought how about the parents raising the child. You know sacrifice work or charity events for awhile. Or maybe they shouldn’t have made the choice to bring a human life into this world? Oh no somebody think of our economy? Fuck the economy fuck hypernormalization.

Something is seriously wrong with your critical thinking skills. They’re a nanny because they wanted to pursue a degree in the US. Getting kicked out a place you want to be is a negative. Feel free to get the last word in here, I won’t be replying again
