      Actually to me this doesn’t sound so bad. Yes OP is rejected and that sucks. Beyond that they ask you to fill out a survey which they hope will improve their future hiring process. I am sceptical that they will get anything useful out of the survey, but I really do not see the problem tbh.

    This is probably an unpopular take, and it should be noted that I’m just totally disregarding the whole personal data aspect of this, but… I kinda appreciate it when I’m given some kind of way to provide feedback on stuff like this. If there was one part of the process that was more absurd than even I expected, or if just the whole thing is shit, I prefer to be able to express that. Maybe it just makes me feel better I guess. Sometimes it’s cathartic to chew out a survey form over something that was so egregious that it’s made me angry.

    I’m also a huge advocate for exit interviews though. Somebody quits, ask them why, what was good, what was bad. Fire someone, ask them just the same. A lot of my work experience has been yearly contracts where termination is scheduled, expected, and common, but I do think other types of employers would benefit from actually proactively seeking feedback.

    This example probably isn’t that and the employer is probably shit, but I just wanted to put that out there.

      I agree but I feel like you’ll almost never get honest feedback, and companies never seem to do anything with the feedback they get. I mean if you’re firing someone, you’ll probably get a list of grievances that are exaggerated because they’re upset. If someone is quitting, they might hold back to not burn the bridge so to speak. The only time I had an exit interview was also the worst job I ever had, and I doubt they did anything as a result of me telling them, “Hey, when you tell someone they can’t take their legally mandated break, and then write them up for not taking that break, it’s kind of a demoralizing dick move.”

    On one hand, its nice that they actually responded, because even that can’t be taken for granted nowadays.

    On the other hand, they spent more text on telling you they’re holding onto your data (and trying to milk you for more) than they did telling you the thing the email was about!!

      I’m only surprised that all these other companies aren’t sending me messages that they’re holding on to my data. That seems like a GDPR violation. Might be okay for companies that only operate inside the UK, but I know a lot of the ones I have applied for aren’t like that.

        The UK has a domestic law identical to the GDPR (usually referred to as UK GDPR if the distinction is needed). It was implemented before we actually left the EU

            If they kept data without telling you, yes. If they just deleted it after rejecting or ignoring your application then I don’t think they need to say anything

        I’ve worked for Fraser Group (in a very different capacity) and you absolutely have dodged a bullet; they’re an absolute shit show and are responsible for a large amount of the enshittification of the UK’s high street.

        The owners are shitbags and the rest of the hierarchy takes notes and shit downstream.

    That said, I suppose depending on where you are in your career, it’s good experience and portfolio work.

    Reminds me of the police service in Scotland inviting people to complete a survey… about their stay in police custody. I’m not entirely sure what results they’re expecting there. Probably the brainchild of some “management consultant” who has probably never set foot in a public building before.

      Dodged a bullet in the sense that I’m sure it’s a shit company, but right now, I just need a job that pays more than £29,000 a year so I can get a family visa for my wife and daughter. Any job. I will worry about a good job later. I even held my nose and applied for a job at Phillip-Morris.

      I have what I have been told multiple times is a very impressive CV, but so far, no luck. I have about two months’ worth of savings to find a job.

        When I joined the workforce full time a good number of years ago. I was chuffed to fuck to be earning £20k a year at the time. In the intervening years, the cost of living has gotten ludicrous.

        In metropolitan areas, I’m not quite sure how anyone but the DINKys can cope with the financial pressures of city living.

            Your best bet is to go through companies that are interesting relevant and find someone who is a hiring manager or has something in common with you. Once you find them, send them a nice LinkedIn message explaining how much you love the company/product/culture and if they are interested in having a coffee chat.

            Basically, you gotta get past the gate keepers (recruiters) and you’ll find things open up. Most recruiters are fucking shit (especially at mega corps) and are just looking to check boxes. Go around them.

            Source: I’m a tech recruiter whose moved from America (at the start of trump’s first term) to multiple European countries without a plan in place.

            P.s. have a look at the Netherlands, there’s a lot of need for talent and quite a few companies will sponsor if you meet the income reqs.

              I wouldn’t even know how to find such people, unfortunately. Most hiring managers know nothing at all about media production. Some of the job ads are hilarious. The ones that expect me to edit with Capcut and do graphics with Canva are the worst. I apply for them anyway, but these people have no idea.

Got a linkedin message for a job from a, I kid you not, lead generation manager at a lead generation company. They guy gives no details and sends me a link and does not reply when I ask for details in text.
