Need for Speed Underground 2 still has not been topped. The physics felt the best in the series, because slides still felt controllable by using throttle and the wheel. Nowadays slides feel like a mobile drift game that forces gyro controls.
Carbon was the last NFS game I enjoyed, but it didn’t match NFSU2, not even close.
The Run was the last NFS game I played that I liked, but it was quite different from any other NFS game. Fine as a one time spinoff but not how I want the next 10 NFS games to feel like.
I tried NFS Unbound and didnt make it more than 2 hours into the game because the game was too interested in preaching at me or talking at me than it was letting me race. Also, the driving model felt really bad, just like the other Criterion NFS games.
Crazy to me that almost universally everyone says NFSU2s driving model was the best and the developers can completely ignore that and instead make something new that nobody likes.
Bought NFS heat for 6€ on steam. Was expecting disappointment, but so far it’s been quite fun. I don’t play a lot of driving games, but I’ve done a bit of sliding and drifting using the wheel and the throttle ad you’ve said. It’s not easy, but well… i figured it’s a skill I have to learn as any other.
I see the next BF will be developed by Dice and 4 other teams? Well I wish them luck on good cooperation but that sounds really scary team-wise.
But who knows, maybe it’ll help. Because Dice is … ok well I’m old so I don’t know if this is still true but I remember them as one of those studios that just keeps fucking things up. Bugs on bugs. Them and Creative Asembly (Total War). But as I said, I’m old, not sure how things look now
Bonus rant: But boy, I remember one bug they introduced in BF3 with one patch. The bug was that the under-barrel shotgun attachement didn’t have its own damage, but took the damage from main weapon i.e. 12 pellets x 25 HP = 300 HP. I mean, shit happens but how much of a mess there’s in the code that this happens? I’d genuinely love to see that code. And! And! That testers don’t catch it during testing! How? That it flows through all the stages up to the production. Do you even have some tests? Is there a QA team? And I know I’m not crazy because as a follow up, the EA tried to step in to put things in order. Rant over
No thanks.
I like Hot Pursuit Remastered and play it every now and then as good arcade racers and getting hard to find.
I haven’t enjoyed a BF game since Bad Company 2… and everything newer is truly awful.
Bf3 and 4 were some of the most popular are best selling shooters of their time. 1, V, and 2042? Eh, pass
I had fun with 1, but it was definitely on the decline. So many cheaters I remember
BFV is objectively the best BF game mechanically and content-wise and it’s not close. Unfortunately the awful reputation it rightly earned throughout most of its lifespan will forever rob it of its throne.
objectively
Yes objectively lol. There’s a reason why the player counts of BFV (and BF1) dwarf those of BF4 and BF2042 today.
Battlefield 4, after they fixed it (mostly) and released all the DLC, was great. Still is regularly played.
Something happened starting with BF1, and I just didn’t like it. The physics felt wrong, the gameplay loop felt annoying. I tried BFV, which was a joke at launch. The Pacific Theatre DLC was alright, but the physics still felt bad, and I found the UI to be ugly. Then DICE just completely dropped the game, I guess it must have not been very popular. Surprise surprise.
I felt exactly the same. There’s just SOMETHING wrong with the Frostbite 3 engine that even now DICE doesn’t seem to be able to get physics right. Things feel strongly floaty and delayed.
Up to battlefield 3 everything felt exactly how an fps should be, snappy, fast, and realistic enough. 4 used Frostbite 3 and remember how buggy it was on launch but after years of work is still one of the best they ever made. But somehow 1 and on theres just something off that I just can’t put my finger on.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve put at least several dozen hours into every one of them so it’s not like I played a few matches and quit.
But 1942, 2, BC 1 AND 2, 3, and 4 I put hundreds if not thousands of hours into them
BFV was a great game marred by awful executive meddling causing issues several times throughout its run but support was dropped for it because it was at the end of its life cycle (The same as the battlefield preceding it). But it was and is to this day actually one of the most popular games in the series, along with BF1. It (and BF1) dwarf the players of both BF4 and BF2042
