This is the shit that I can’t handle with the whole “had to walk uphill both ways in the snow in order to go to school” rhetoric, because it centers the story teller’s pain, and reinforces the “yeah, whatever, grandma” response.

If they would instead say something like, “when I was a kid, not every school district had the money for a whole bus system just for children, and a large section of the population didn’t have access to cars either, so we were mostly responsible for getting ourselves to school on our own, on top of 6he ract that it was 8jcredibly difficult for the school district to communicate closures, so if you could possibly get there, you’d try, so we’d be forced to try,” It would do much more to communicate what they actually mean.

As somebody who doesn’t like needles, I resent the implication.

Antivaxers are antivaxers because they’re stupid. Whether or not they hate needles is irrelevant.

only tangentially related, but I have observed some protest more to injections than other forms of medication due to what I can only conclude is the squick factor. it comes up more in conversations with cis folks about HRT, like people feeling that taking oral estradiol is OK but being a lot more resistant to injections. they’re functionally the same thing but needles are more associated with scarier clinical interventions or drugs and that’s what it ends up being compared to. just speculating but I wouldn’t be surprised if the same “needle = artificial/dangerous” association is made among the antivax crowd.

Yeah the people who peddle this the most are Boomers who think they are the strong men and that everyone younger than them are the weak men.

Also it’s pointlessly gendered, which fits that Boomer vibe.
