It’s from Joe, so take it with a pinch of salt, but will be a shame if it’s true. It’s been refreshing to have a happy, more emotional Doctor for a change. Although yes some of the writing has been… Yeah… Still a big improvement on Chibnall’s era, but that’s a pretty low bar.

Please BBC, for the love of god… just get some good writers and have Gatwa sit in on the brainstorming sessions.

I get that for the 13th doctor, but Gatwa’s episodes were written by Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat. Why they wrote the second worst doctor is beyond me though.

Last season showed just how hack RTD and Moffat have got (and I say that as a fan of prior work)

I mean come on, Harriet Arbinger?

It should be the showrunners who need to go. Ncuti is not the issue; it’s the infantile, lowest-common-denominator storytelling that is the issue. It needs it’s budget halved, stop making design decisions based on merchandise and a fiery young upstart team to play punk SF with the show. AND in the name of Rassilon, get rid of the sonic screwdriver, somic guitar, somic sumglasses and all that trite nonsense. AND if they need a new Doctor, hire Matt Berry.

How Space Babies made it all the way from conception to broadcast, especially as the first episode of the season that’s supposed to get everyone on board, without anyone intervening will forever be a mystery to me.

Oh, I seriously dislike the smarminess of Matt Berry. Screw you, you’re right, he’d be great.

He doesn’t have the range. He’d be entertaining for an episode or two but it would wear thin very quickly.

I agree with all of this, aside from the sonic sunglasses, Capaldi rocked them! Matt Berry would be amazing. Richard Ayoade would be my vote.

I will be so damn disappointed if they end his run without revisiting the Rogue storyline. The doctor has never given up on someone like that - never. Let alone someone he cared about.

Yes! Rogue should have been the new companion for the next season.

Or at least develop a decent recurring character and relationship. As it stands this will be the second instance of blatant queerbating in Doctor Who. Gatwa deserves better - we all do!

I would argue that Ncuti is a good fit for a Disney show. And the same stands for RTD, by the way. Whereas Doctor Who is a BBC show, a different beast. Oh, wait! 😭😭😭

“The source claimed the series had become poorly managed with longstanding staff feeling ‘cast aside due to poor leadership’.”

Show-runner had issues, left, came back, SURPRISE! Still has issues.

TBH I don’t think there’s ever really been a time when Doctor Who has been running on smooth rails lol, or at least not since the 80s. The Baker and McCoy eras sounded like chaos by all accounts, the first RTD era was rough enough that Christopher Eccleston left and is still a bit spicy about it, and The Writer’s Tale makes the Tennant era sound a bit better but still pretty messy.

Moffat’s run seemed to run a bit smoother, but you still hear stories like the writing and production of the 50th anniversary and season 7, so maybe he just managed it a bit better and we didn’t hear about it as much.

Chibnall’s era was a mess off and on screen, some episodes are barely even coherent IMO. Even if you don’t factor in COVID disrupting production.

And then back to RTD2, which seems to be proving that you can’t fix things by just throwing money at them. But maybe that’s just part of the DNA of the show now, it’s just a chaotic mess run by a series of mad people that sometimes manages to be brilliant for reasons nobody fully understands lol.
