I (21M) have back pain in a specific spot in my vertebrae. It’s in the middle of my shoulder blades.
It appeared suddenly yesterday and I’m scared it’s permanent. What should I do?
It depends on the intensity of the pain.
Is it a discomfort that you can ignore and go on with your daily activities? Then no worries it will probably pass in a few days. I had this type of discomfort lasting up to a week. Take it easy and it will go away by itself
Is it unbearable and you cannot do anything without using pain killers? Then take an appointment to you doctor without waiting. If it so unbearable that you can’t move, then go to the ER.
First thing, don’t worry. The chances of a sudden onset pain in that area, without a distinct injury as the cause, becoming permanent is absurdly low. Particularly at your age, but it applies even for us old farts.
Follow the standard care of taking it easy, using nsaids , maybe acetaminophen, and applying heat until you can get it checked out.
Do you have any shooting/pulsing pain or numbness, or other symptoms, or just general pain in a specific area? If it is only general pain in one spot, I would try something like massage or physio, but if it has other it could be something to see a DR for if it’s sticking around longer than a few days and doesn’t feel better with heat or pain relievers
