pinned, thank you for the message :)
(please remind me if I forget to unpin it afterwards)
Fucked. Looks like a Ford majority.
As many others have said, this timeline sucks.
Did we really expect anything different?
At least my NDP MPP kept their seat.
My Liberal MPP also kept her seat.
Which is a good thing because I slammed my door in the face of the Conservative candidate when she came around canvasing a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was some campaign staffer rather than the actual MPP candidate and, while I don’t regret my decision, I was a bit worried that if she actually got into office she’d try to make my life difficult as retaliation.
TIL, the conservative plan to destroy the education system was an outstanding success!
I’m unconvinced enough voters are punishing Ford despite all of his mistakes.
Too many people get riled up over national politics and international events while ignoring their civic duties in their community and province. It’s disappointing.
Agreed. In fact, provincial elections are more important than federal ones when it comes to internal matters despite the lack of attention provincial policies get.
The more local an election is, the more it matters to you on a personal level, though Ford is an exception since he’s hyper-focused on ruining Toronto, so he’s way more important than the mayor considering how much he steps right over the city’s own leadership.
I agree - and I’d also highlight that his response to US aggression was pretty decent overall so that’s likely in the front of a lot of voters minds.
Did he do more than posture a bit?
Canada didn’t effectively do more than posture because the tariffs were canceled. He claimed intent to cancel a starlink contract and supported tariffs on energy. I’d give him (and gave him at the time) fair credit for his response. I fucking hate him - but his response was supportive of a unified Canadian response which contrasted with our permanent least favorite premiere fucking Smith who tried to weasel out of tariffs in the hope that Trump might roll back oil tariffs specifically.
Since push didn’t come to shove we can’t be certain if it was all posturing but I think it was genuine and I’d even say that the posturing he did was likely helpful in showing Trump that we weren’t going to be pushovers.
Vote that fat fucking Crack smoking bitch out of office!
Wasn’t that his brother?
Yes. And somehow Doug is worse :)
Rob is dead, he can’t do much more damage at this point.
Good Point
Yeah, but shit apples are alike
That i can agree with
Give Ford hell!
You do not need a voter card to vote! ID and proof of address is enough!
(Edited to remove mention of photo ID as per comment below)
PSA: You don’t even need photo ID! There are a lot of alternatives. If you’re trans, you don’t have to look like the person in the photo!
I just voted! No matter who you side with, just please vote!
I had a dumb thought: “My riding is very lopsided, I don’t really need to go out today, do I?”
OH, YES I DO. If anyone else thinks that way, then it makes my vote even more important/impactful, and you never know what’s going to happen.
(Also I can get some groceries on my way back. :)
Additionally: some people (i.e.Trump in US elections determined by the electoral college) make a big deal out of general population voting patterns. You should always vote, no excuses.
This especially coming from someone in BC where conservatives suddenly and surprisingly did quite well in a recent election.
I just voted too! Asking friends and family to do the same.
If you didn’t get a voter card, you can get an electronic one by downloading the app. I did that and it was pretty painless. You still need to go to the polling station with a piece of ID but the app generates a bar code they scan and you’re in and out of there pretty quick.
What if you don’t have something that can download and use apps?
You don’t need a voting card to vote. If you don’t have a voting card, you need a piece of ID with your name and address. If you have your voting card, you just need something with your name.
List of acceptable IDs can be found here: https://www.elections.on.ca/en/voting-in-ontario/id-to-vote-in-provincial-elections.html#accordionIDtovote
I know, I was being cheeky with my question because I thought it was weird to tell people about an app to get a voter card when you don’t need one to begin with.
Thank you for providing the information under my silliness. :)
fwiw it does actually tell you where your polling station is, which I was confused about after finding conflicting info online.
From BC with love - I hope yall manage to kick Ford to the curb!
Send help.
I should have never moved from B.C. out here.
Help… dunno… but moral support:
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/conservative-caucus-tariff-division-1.7468415
Five BC Cons members recently voted against condemning US tariffs and to enable retaliatory tariffs and then Rustad tried a laughably “never gonna happen” no confidence vote against Eby. BC Cons aren’t a non-threat but they certainly are laughably incompetent.
Con opposition has three buttons they push at random:
- It is the fault of the (non-con) leader
- We need to cut costs (services)
- Trickle down
They have no other response.
Wow, do they ever throw the non-confidence if they’re even close. Like shit to a wall they just hope it sticks.
There’s so much in that article wow.
Firstly:
On Monday, Rustad asked the party’s attorney general critic, Dallas Brodie, to take down a social media post which critics say amounts to residential school denial.
After that one candidate’s comments calling indigenous peoples “savages” like, fucking wow, get your shit together. Most of Canada’s at least pretending to give a shit about the genocide they did now, get with the program.
Secondly, I’m confused about the “voting with their conscience” thing. I guess I don’t know enough about politics but it doesn’t make sense to me to make everyone vote for the same thing if they should be voting with their constituents in mind. Not all constituencies are alike, so why would you force them to fall in line and piss off their voters?
FTFY
The first one looked more correct on my Telstra device?
I know it isn’t needed, but it seems odd how many people I know have not received their voters card.
After the election was called I went and checked my registration info and made sure it was accurate. Still didn’t get anything.
I just got my card the day before yesterday despite voting last week. Looks like the Ford government is as good at running elections as they are at running everything else.
It’s intentional. My household got the “don’t forget to register!” Cards… Why am I not registered? I’ve been voting here for 7 years and voted in Ontario since I was legally able.
Mfers just sent me a $200 cheque, and they aren’t sure if I’m a voter? Don’t waste paper and my time with this trash. Voter suppression.
I recieved my voter card on Tuesday, after I voted.
You can go to your voting location whether or not you received your card, just bring IDs and something with your address.
I just want to tell you all good luck, we’re all counting on you
