Summary

Senator Bernie Sanders will visit Wisconsin next week for rallies in Kenosha and Altoona, targeting Republican-held congressional districts to boost Democratic turnout before the April 1 state election.

His visit comes as Wisconsin voters prepare to decide control of the state supreme court, a race that will be viewed as an indicator of sentiment about Trump’s first months back in office.

Sanders aims to pressure GOP Representatives Steil and Van Orden on social program cuts and challenge what he calls “the country’s move toward authoritarianism.”

Both Republican congressmen criticized Sanders’ visit, with Van Orden calling him a millionaire who “has never worked an honest day.”

I had the privilege of being in a room, just 10 feet away from bernie for 45 minutes listening to a semi-public stratagy session on the 2020 campaign. I have never met a more forthright, empathetic and human politician.

Both Republican congressmen criticized Sanders’ visit, with Van Orden calling him a millionaire who “has never worked an honest day.”

funny how writing a series of best selling books about his lived experiences as an advocate, organizer and legislator can bring in money under a capitalist system.

those who dont lose their souls while working within the system to bring about change are rare. while I may not agree with him 100% of the time, bernie has yet to show me any reason to withdraw my support.

Also funny how they (politicians) don’t consider holding political office to be honest work.

I’m glad he is doing this because i agree with this strategy, but can someone explain to me why the online political strategists (in this case lemmy) seem to approve Bernie reaching across the aisle but seem appalled when Kamala tried to do the same?

Sanders doesn’t do it by moving to the right. He does it by messaging to the working class.

Based on what I’m hearing coming from the Democrats lately, I also feel like this could be argued it’s also Sanders trying to reconcile with his party (by showing them how fucking dumb they’re being by doubling down on their anti-left nonsense)

His party? He’s not a democrat. You can tell because he’s not throwing up his hands and gleefully announcing that there’s nothing he can do.

Kamala reached out to Republican war criminal elites, instead of reaching out to the working class disaffected by outsourcing of jobs.

Kamala reached out to Republican war criminal elites

You could just say Republicans. She reached out to the highest ranking Republicans with name recognition she could to have them speak to their base. The base that isn’t going to listen to her directly and will not care about no name republican politicians.

The point is she tried to get disenfranchised R voters to switch over, the same thing Bernie is doing. One gets upvoted the other gets crucified.

The strategy is wildly different. Kamala did reach out by abandoning popular positions and instead focusing on virtue signalling garbage “I own a gun” “look at how tough on crime I am” “Liz Cheney likes me”.

Bernie’s message is different. It’s M4A and worker’s rights. He’s not putting out different messaging from what he’s always pushed for.

You want to say it’s because he’s a man, but that’s not it. AOC and Elizabeth Warren both have similar messages and both are fairly well received.

Kamala’s messaging failed because like Hilary it was essentially “Trump is bad, you have to vote for me” and nothing else. She failed to present any sort of plan for the US. I mean, FFS, she spent part of the campaign doing “me too” to Trump policies like no tax on tips.

Another difference is that Bernie’s policies are “radical”, something which disenfranchised voters really want in the face of growing inequality. With Kamala, her policies is about status quo and her platform is not that appealing, as someone like me looking at American politics from the outside. People are living pay check to pay check, struggling with student loans, facing out of control rent, and unable to afford medical bills and buy a house. More leftist policies such as medicare for all, increasing minimum wage and building affordable housing will alleviate the economic pressure on many ordinary Americans. Trump promised tax cuts and to reshore companies, which many Americans thought is a better deal in spite of other baggages from Trump.

Bernie Sanders shows up and talks about policy stances for at least half an hour.

Kamala Harris has like 95% of the same policy stances but never talks about them, or the news that covers her never covers her talking about them. Instead Kamala would bring up on stage conservative hacks who oppose Trump after being pieces of shit until just recently, and show infomercials of farmers and friendly eagles.

But I still voted for her, and I would do so again, and I advocate everyone else do so as well. She is a force of good.

Let’s be clear about this. They are still absolutely being pieces of shit. They don’t mind all the worst stuff that Trump will do, but they don’t like him being so obvious about it.
