"Since Donald Trump began his tariff threats against Canada and his ‘jokes’ about making Canada the 51st US state, I have not bought a single product originating in the US,” said Lynne Allardice, 78, a retired business owner from New Brunswick, Canada.

“Not a single lettuce leaf or piece of fruit. I have become an avid reader of labels and have adopted an ‘anywhere but the US’ policy when shopping. I will not visit the States while Trump remains in office, and most of the people I know have adopted the same policy.”"

I haven’t seen this take spreading much yet, so posting it here too:

Canada needs to start stealing IP from the US and violating their copyright. Create and sell jailbreaks for American hardware.

That was part of the free-trade agreement, so there’s no reason to continue honoring it at this point.

Canada needs to take a break from America and see other nations. Let’s open the relationship, see where it goes.

America, it’s not you, it’s….no fuck it. It’s absolutely you.

Bunch of racist white dudes moved in, killed all the people already living here, and instituted slavery almost immediately.

Why the FUCK did Canada EVER look at America and say “Well these guys seem like people I can trust!”?

Look, Canada, you’re great. You know who else has some great people? Australia. I know. I know. Given how it was founded, by all logical conclusions Australia SHOULD be full of a culture of shady criminals. But it’s NOT. I’ve literally never met an Australian person without later thinking “Man that person was cool.”

Maybe Canada should become BFFs with Australia! And hey, I’m the one who came up with the idea. Maybe you could let ME be Canadian. PLEASE let me not have to be in this shitty country anymore! I want to come hang out with Canadians, and Australians, and maybe we meet some Japanese people. That might be fun, right? Oh, and Polish people seem pretty cool.

I guess I just like people who are friendly, and make good allies, but if you fuck with them, they will fuck you up.

Oh, let’s get Ukraine in on this friendship!

We’ll be in joint counseling for years after this mess. Maybe a neutral country like Switzerland can be the moderator.

That didn’t work out so well with Ukraine. Maybe the US isn’t a psycho.

As an American I fully support this. Our government is supposed to work as a bit of a push-n-pull, not a winner rape all, which is how Trump and the RepubliKKKans run things. I am anxious to see them and their policies fail asap, so please do as much damage as possible. I wish that I could renounce my citizenship and become a Canadian. I identify so much more with your country and values. Unfortunately I looked into immigrating about 15 yrs ago and I’m too old, lacking a tech degree, and not rich enough for Canada’s point system of immigration. (You get points based on age, skill sets, and the wealth you bring into the country and have to meet a minimum score.)

That’s exactly what the Trump administration is trying to fix. We have been getting the short end of the stick for years, and now that we actually have an administration in sync and getting things done… the world shudders. How dare we stand up for ourselves. Heaven forbid we try to balance our trade deficits, or try to negotiate an end to a war nobody wants, or try to secure our borders against cartels and drugs our “allies” let slip into our country.

Don’t get me wrong, the administration isn’t perfect. But it’s getting things done, and fast. A little short-term pain for long-term gain is worth exploring in my opinion. We have 4 years to find out.

This is a joke right? Those things you listed, the current administration has done exactly nothing productive in those areas.

Balance trade deficits by ensuring nobody will ever want to export to the US? Check
End a war nobody wants by threatening the defending side and supporting the dictator aggressor side? Check
Defending US borders against drugs from canada by doing absolutely nothing while Canada has been working on the problem for a long time which is already showing results? Check

And not to forget that its already pretty much completed a fascist takeover of the government, but thats what 50% of the country stands for so you could call it the will of the people?

Also what the fuck is short end of the stick supposed to mean? The US is by far the wealthiest country in the world and raking up wealth at the fastest rate by exploiting developing countries and their own population. Noone is getting the longer end of the stick than the US. That wealth is stuck at the top 0.1% so of course the average American doesnt feel it, but that wont change with tarriffs and oil deals. The rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer, just like the current administration is planning. By the time the working class finally unites because they are starving in the worlds richest country it will be too late, no chance to revolt against a class holding a million times their power.

No offense but you should really get in touch with reality…

The only explenation I can think of is Trump is running everything like one of his businesses. You are friends with no one. You bluster and pretend, make outrageous demands with no intention of meeting them. He was notorious for not paying his bills and telling contractors to try to get their money. He may be playing the old tactic of asking for $1000 when you know it will be rejected and really aiming for $100 in the first place. He may not even have a plan and just posturing is his goal. He may just put this farce on for a few weeks, then drop it after causing chaos in the markets and with consumers. Then he’ll make some vague declaration of victory, his supporters and congress will cheer for him without asking any questions and he’ll move on to the next performance.

My question is why do his supporters think causing discord with our closest allies for 100 or so years is somehow helping us? I can only guess a combination of a total lack of education (especially history and analytical thought) and willful blindness, like the victim of a scam who can’t admit they were scammed.

Same. I’ve encouraged everybody I know to do the same, and they have all already been doing it. And I’m in Alberta.

Like we didn’t really like Americans BEFORE this Trump shit. It’s not hard to see why most Canadians are like “wow, fuck that country” now.

That matches what I’m seeing on the ground. My work has a slack chat for discussing Canadian business alternatives and Canadian products are flying off the shelves.
