It’s just like email. It mostly doesnt matter what instance you choose as you can talk with almost any other instance. There are a couple instances that have been defederated from most other instances, but they are few and far between. Anyway, it’s exactly like email.
Think of an “instance” as a server (or servers) where Lemmy is being hosted. So, lemmy.world is hosted by one entity while lemm.ee is being hosted by another. They just have different servers, but they can interact with each other.

Most of the main subs auto shadowban anyone that hasn’t provided a verified email. So it’s possible you’re not banned site wide yet.

people are getting banned sitewide left and right for very little reason, or even if its a semi-legit reason they went after all my accounts(one temp ban was enough to trigger a sitewide ban on all my other accts that are completely seperate from each other), and i wasnt a serial ban evader like the people who have hundreds of accounts. im guessing thats why they are comming here.

LOL no they are not. 97% of the users don’t give a fuck about any of this and will never leave. Reddit can ride it out just fine. For example, look at the cesspool FB turned into.
half of it is bots, and the half is addicted to politics and news subs(includes any subreddit that talks about the above), and then theres the entertainment subs: like sports, movies,etc.
The power users are the content of reddit. If the power users leave reddit losses its appeal.
Reddit doesn’t have the internet infrastructure FB has where they were able to monopolise the internet of whole countries in certain parts of the world.
And the wider they cast this dragnet the more users will be caught up in it, the more will slowly leave, the less content will be created, the worse the platform will get.
I think for the future of reddit you only need to look at digg.

After Trump’s first term and the T_D disaster, the conversation seemed to shift from that failed insurgency (at the time) to a reddit spearled meme stock economic destabilization attempts. Reddit is subjecting yourself to be manipulated for the opportunity to participate in some communities, and they know it.
