I’m asking this seriously, not looking to start an argument.
Do you disagree with this?
“There are no winners in a government shutdown,” Schumer said in a floor speech. “It’s not really a decision; it’s a Hobson’s choice: Either proceed with the bill before us or risk Donald Trump throwing America into the chaos of a shutdown.
“For sure, the Republican bill is a terrible option. It is not a clean CR [continuing resolution]. It is deeply partisan. It doesn’t address far too many of this country’s needs. But I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option,” he added. “I will vote to keep the government open and not shut it down.”
Yeah I disagree with him, he is saying avoiding a shutdown is better, but I think that allowing the Republicans to rob Medicaid funding and use that to give tax breaks to only billionaires is far worse long-term than a government shutdown now.
I hear you. I just don’t have any faith in the Democrats.
The Democrats are complicit in this. They’re not merely incompetent or ineffectual. The party serves the same class of donors that the Republicans do, but they are less loud about it. It’s not an accident that they abandoned the working class decades ago. It’s not a coincidence that they’ve lost well over a thousand elected positions across all levels of government. They don’t serve the people, and the people likewise don’t vote for them reliably because of this which keeps the Republicans in power.
Shutting down the government gives Trump fewer good people to stand in his way. Most people in our government are public servants and not politicians, but without their consciences in the way, nobody stops or resists the takeover.
Neither are good options. I don’t know what’s actually better.
If Republicans don’t have the votes, make them change the CR to be better or let them suffer the consequences of not passing it. It’s in their power. You don’t help them get what they want. Force them to play their hand or back down.
I’m torn on this. I agree with what you’re saying, but I also agree that a shutdown benefits Trump’s efforts to seize more power and cause more chaos. They’re not playing by the rules, so fewer government officials to stand in their way does work in their favor.

Yeah, it’s bullshit
The issue is that Trump is already killing everything in government that serves the people anyway.
The Democrats need to tell them to get in line and follow the fucking law, or 100% of their funding will end right now.

Both seem like shit options.
Well, they either have an easier time taking power or they’re handed it. I think it’s better to force them to take it.
