I’m curious about less common meditation practices.

Tai Chi Chuan, Qi Gong, and other internal arts are forms of meditation. Under Herbert Benson M.D.'s definition, i.e. repetition of a word, sound, phrase, or movement, while adopting a passive mindset, optimally for 10-20 minutes twice daily these could easily qualify. I generally prefer meditation with movement. And one can always add a word, sound, or phrase to give that monkey mind something to do.
I find walking meditation helps soothe monkey-mind if I’m agitated or anxious, as does weight-lifting to some extent. As the other commenter stated, the act of repetition gives you something to focus on, similar to breathing exercises.
