articles for windows problems: here’s a virus, it’ll fix everything. enjoy!

articles for mac problems: this software fixes your exact issue in 2 clicks but it costs $50 and will never be integrated into MacOS officially

articles for linux issues: you have to sift through forums still styled like it’s 2005 but someone will post 3 lines of terminal commands that will either fix your issue or brick your system

I remember once finding a blog post that solved my problem perfectly, then ran a fork bomb right when the problem was solved and crashed my system.

It really felt like the Internet belonged to the users. The difference was the freedom to make it yours.

In 2005 there were <1B users, today there are >5B. Most of those first billion were online because they WANTED to be online, they built personal websites, ran message boards and operated projects like Albinoblacksheep because they wanted to interact with other like minded nerds. Now most users are online because they have a phone, and phones are so limiting that all they can really do is scroll through feeds and ‘share’ links (try editing HTML on your phone some time).

Don’t forget that at the end of the linux process you physically feel your brain growing new synapses, and from that moment on you want to cry when people struggle with the same issue because it’s so obvious

The reason for this is because it pushes them higher on Google search.

Now the same page gets visited by people with that problem, people who want to know what a graphics driver is, people who are looking at the definition of computer, …

It is literally a job to find ways to get higher in search by writing those types of unnecessary long posts.

Windows reps on the main support site replied with SFC /scannow to basically any topic they didn’t know how to fix.

If you can’t open a Windows critical app like start or options or the task bar it’s usually the answer. On very rare occasion it can help with peripherals, but it should always be accompanied by system updates and dism

a little while ago i got rid of a recurring unexpected_store_exception bsod by repairing system files, but i had to use Repair-WindowsImage -Online -RestoreHealth in powershell because sfc /scannow wasnt able to repair the corrupted files by itself

sfc /scannow is to fix your Windows if it has corrupted files.

Rebooting doesn’t, but it will reload all the files in your memory from scratch again, making it less prone to problems.

But if the problems are that the files itself are corrupted, then rebooting will not help.

Only authentic with a [Solved] and the year in the title, super dumb description and always the same solving-suggestions:

    Bluescreen DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL -2023[Solved]

    Why do I get this?
This bluescreen does appear to be either caused by software (Drivers, installed apps, Windows) or Hardware, like your RAM or your CPU.

    How do I solve it?
    Quick and easy solution:
    Try this tool:
    spam.shady.domain/infiltrator.exe?download_you_fucking_idiot

    Other solutions
    You might want to:

    1. reboot
    2. “Check if your drivers are up to date by running Windows update” (yeah… right… Windows Update and Drivers, shitheads…)
    3. sfc /scannow
    4. DISM
    5. Try the tool above
    6. About this tool we gave you… tried it yet?

It mostly works ok, but sometimes it’s really stupid and overwrites more current drivers with older ones, because the current ones aren’t on Microsofts servers…

According to the Windows AMD GPU users, it’s a bit too effective at downloading them.

Disclaimer: I don’t run Windows much, so I have to go with what I see online.

Nah, they are usually hidden under optional updates though.

On the Microsoft Surface laptops, the entire driver update system is through Microsoft Update.

The amount of times I have seen these sites is crazy. Some of them link to CNET downloads or some other shady software site that’s been online for years.

Especially egregious since the answer is always just testdisk or photorec if it’s REALLY fucked, if that can’t do it then you pay someone with a god damn cleanroom.
