This is how most protests or strikes go in real life too.

When a protest negatively affects someone, it is the fault of the one(s) who directly caused the effect, rather than those that caused people to protest in the first place.

If you think broad enough, you can see the parallels to things like public transport strikes or other forms of protest.

Except it literally does affect them, they’re literally the ones throwing tantrums and whining about how mods and others ruined the subs, without a hint of irony.

Just looked at some of those accounts and they’re less than 2 years old. My guess is, they never used anything other than the official app so to them, nothing will change. Honestly, let reddit keep those users. I’d rather have a conversation with someone who doesn’t have the attention span of a TikTok user.

Lol, in this kinds of threads there is always the bitter milennial, that can bare that times change.

because surprise! those kind of users are here as well! (like me :0 )

Like just because someone is not an elder person will be in favour of corporate fuckery?

Look I am one, but think it is bitter millennials that joined Reddit ten years ago and want old Reddit and working apps. The new new generation are used to new Reddit and corporate millennials are elders now.

I think that it would vary by other demographics, too. I don’t personally know any other people around my age (Older Gen Z) who still use reddit, especially after all of this went down. I understand that my personal experience is only one out of billions, so I’m also not necessarily saying that you’re wrong about that either.

I don’t know, I guess I just wanted to reassure you that not all of the new new generation is following reddit blindly. Many of us are strongly protesting over the principal of how reddit treats their mods and users. Many posters don’t feel the need to include their ages, so I’m not sure we can get a fully accurate read on the age groups just yet.

Nothing is too big to fail.

Omg me too. I know they are just human, and are susceptible to the same crap logic I am, but I can’t put myself there. My only thought, is that they just don’t know. The more you know, the harder you have to work, to maintain some kind of engagement in your life to feed the monster you created in your head. These people are fine floating, and tbh, I envy them AND pity them simultaneously.

      rich corporations

Reddit never has made a profit. So… they’re not rich.

I’m not sure that shilling for a poor corporation makes things much better though.

With how much meddling the US did in the 20th century with CIA coups and such, I question how much of the bad reputation of communism is due to that. I think the common view of the bad parts of communism and fascism are really issues with authoritarianism and concentration of power.

Look at how the US was around 1900. Take for example the shirtwaist fire. When you are locked in a building that is on fire, the least of your concern is whether it is a rich and powerful asshole that works directly for the government or a rich and powerful asshole that owns the factory and owns the politicians through bribery, lobbying, campaign contributions, etc. If you aren’t familiar with the business plot, capitalists tried to overthrow the US government in the 1930s and turn it some sort of fascist regime.

The down side to democracy is that when times get rough, a strong man shows up with the answer and a scapegoat, usually an already marginalized group, if they only have the power to fix everything, and the next thing you know people just voted themselves into that authoritarian regime out of desperation or fear.

About all we can do is squash FUD and misinformation as it pops up. Unfortunately, in this game of whack-a-mole, it takes more time to refute stuff with well crafted arguments and credible sources than it does to make things up that rile people up.

Thing is I think it is those used to old Reddit are leaving. Those staying are those that joined after “new” Reddit and it is all they know. Old redditors are probably not profitable as they remember the wild west internet. New Reddit only know the corporate net and are easier to market to

I don’t really trust anyone so deep into a fandom that their primary content consumption and creation is a fan specific meme sub. Their primary thing is engaging with that specific content, and anything that gets in the way is going to be attacked.
