Urbanism is the study of how inhabitants of urban areas, such as towns and cities, interact with the built environment. Wikipedia

Welcome to /c/Urbanism, a place to discuss modern theories about towns and cities. Concepts here can include (but are not limited to) green spaces, transit, walkability, city finances, anything related to increasing wellbeing in urban spaces.

While we tend to think of “Cities” as urban, it also includes our towns and suburbs.

  • Why City Design is Important
  • Our Cities are Broken - Now What?

Rules:

  • No Macro Politics: Urbanism can be political, but this isn’t the place for macro (i.e. state/federal) politics. Keep discussions on policy ideas and practical ways to improve cities. Otherwise it belongs in a politics sub.
  • Don’t be a dick - A broad rule, but breaks down to essentially no personal attacks. People can disagree, disagreements and even arguments are okay, but keep it about the topic - not the other person.

“Sister” communities:

  • [email protected] - Good content specifically about not driving, but here we will strive to include all modes of transit
