Dude, just found this comminity the other day. Being honest, I always suspected and actually acknowledged some of the traits i had and have as autistic-ish; hell, even when growing up my mom and I used to joke around about me being autistic. But time passed and learned how to “act in life” and things were left only as a joke.

Anyway, I saw here someone sharing a link to RAADS test. I said to myself, naaah this is just a bunch of people seeking for validation of the ideas they already have. Fast forward a couple days, that idea never left me and took the test (I know what you are thinking) .

I just don’t know what to do with the results, honestly, I was expecting the score to be something in the realm of 100. But it is a fucking 176.

I just don’t know, man…

Taking the tests is only the first steps, do your research and find out more about it and relate it to your childhood growing up trying to get as many situations for the different diagnosing criteria. Watching some YouTube videos has been mighty helpful as well to better understand certain traits could manifest themselves. If you find yourself relating more and more and fins that a diagnosis might prove useful/enlightening go route, but you’re not obliged either to seek one. I started where you are now a couple of years ago and it’s been quite enlightening to finally understand myself better and the comments/remarks that have been addressed to me on several occasions.

  • An expert would use your answers to that test perhaps as a basis for the real assessment.
Is that the one that forces you to remember how you were before 16? … I wonder if anyone over 25 ever completed that. :-)

haha yes that’s the test I took. I give you that there are some weird phrased sentences, even the authors say it by themselves, but I think that for people interested in some kind of certainty or self-acceptance, It really is a good first tool to encounter.

      • I found it was unsuitable for me, as i could barely remember how i was before 16. I think that an expert would more like assess my reactions to the question rather than the answers … “What does this question actually mean? … I can not answer that …”

Just scored a 179 … I probably erred to liberally in a number of my answers, but it’s not that surprising.

186 here. Already diagnosed with ADHD, so lots of overlap, but I definitely connect with a lot of things I see around about autism. I should set another appointment with my doctor for ADHD and see if he can properly test me or something. I’m like 4 months without my meds anyway, so I know I need to setup an appointment anyway.

I just don’t want more “you are broken” things floating around my head. It’s bad enough already.

I just don’t exactly what to do with this info, I mean, I’m in my thirties now, I’m far of having a secured life, but been having a good time in the recent years, despite all of the set backs and so on, I believe I reach a point where I can stand strong and face whatever situation i am presented with.

But knowing the results makes me wonder if maybe I should “adjust” my view of life or maybe grab some reading about the subject, there’s a chance that I would come across something useful to improve life quality.

Or maybe I just need to keep going as I have, I’m not sure.

I absolutely feel you. I’m doing really well in terms of what society would consider good, but it’s absolutely falling upwards. I’m really good at my job, but the setbacks are constant outside that world and I 100% relate to everything you said. Just feels like everything is always falling apart and my best efforts will never be enough.

I felt the same way when I was diagnosed with ADHD, and I still have no idea what to do with that info other than feel “not enough” for anybody.

I don’t have any answers, but what you’re feeling is the same as me, so don’t hesitate to DM me (if that’s a thing on here) and vent. I’m always in need of a good vent too.

Completely agreed. Over time that feeling of not being enough, or not be a good companion for my loved ones have been slowly going away. Now, I´m gonna seriously be looking for a doctor, haven´t visited a psychologist since I was 10 or so. It is time.

For sure, I´m going to take your word in that, I really appreciate it. Please feel free to do the same, I got you!

Yeees, that was the main purpose of my post here, I was thinking that doing some research and maybe start to going to a doctor could actually improve my social awkwardness. I have been a loner for over 10 years, enjoyed it and grew into it, but at this point I keep thinking that I need to intentionally putting myself out there, at least just for health.

I totally get what you say about your brain kinda switching its ways when you’ve been doing things by yourself for so long. Thanks for the advice, I will go out more often.

You’re not broken, you’re just a way. Redheads and lefties aren’t broken.

I see lots of doctors all the time, but I haven’t seen one for myself in over two decades. I wonder more often if I have ADHD, or if it just seems like that due to other underlying issues.

Pretty sure I’m on the Autism spectrum, though, since my work desk monitors are lined with post-its about how to communicate with other humans.

Welcome! Here are bunch of self-assessments you can take while you’re in the maybe stage: https://embrace-autism.com/autism-tests/

The sidebar also has a few resources for those of us that are recently realizing the autism

Haha it’s funny you said that, because that was my same exact thought before taking the test.

I always thought of myself as someone in the middle because I don’t precisely enjoy social interaction but in most cases I’m KINDA good at it, but fast enough it comes the time for my brain to retrieve a little bit, disregarding if I’m alone or not.

But I was thinking these habits grew hard in me and by now I wasn’t that awkard as when younger, but ooh boy, hahaha maybe I was a little bit wrong.

You’re welcome! If you’re comfortable with it, feel free to share your scores. It can be validating to hear other people share similar results and even provide insight.

Next steps in research I think would be a deep dive into your childhood behaviors, embrace-autism.org articles, and start looking around your local area to find out if there are neuropsychologists who will screen adults for diagnostic testing and if they take insurance
