Do fantasy/sc-fi readers agree with this? I love specualtive fiction, but I also love me some good non-fiction, am I the weird one? 🤔😁

I like to keep things interesting by switching genres every book. Sci-fi/fantasy, then nonfiction, then back to Sci-fi/fiction. Keeps me from getting burnt out on one subject.
@Protoknuckles I do that too, but besides those two genres I also add Classics, YA, and Modern fiction.

No way you’re weird, many of my friends and I are SFF addicts, but still enjoy nonfiction for other interests. If you like books enough you can’t resist extra interests that catch your eye, even if not your first favourites. How can you create worlds unless you have knowledge of the only one you know?
SFF writers I know love researching wide variety of non fiction around their subject to start world and character building.
Read whatever gives you pleasure, but be warned, those TBR piles grow into mountains. 😉😊
I do love me some pop sci books. A Brief History of Time is one of my favorite reads.
No reason to read anything too close to reality.

@reading @joinin @bookstodon @books @[email protected] @[email protected] @aiopI read virtually no non fiction for relaxation, I’m constantly going through chess books for training and instructive lessons. I read about other strategic board games and the history of boardgames as I teach chess and strategy games.
I read almost all genre of fiction to clear my head space.

SF&F and comics/graphic novels are my first love, but I am also the one in our bookshop most likely to read a pile of non-fiction works, from Pop Science to History.
@NickEast_IndieWriter @reading @joinin @bookstodon @books @[email protected] @[email protected] @aiop I totally disagree. I read mostly fantasy, non fiction would be in the second place. Sci-Fi is not my preferred genre in books, but I read at least some. And a lot of the interest in non fiction I read is inspired by fiction I have read, sparking curiosity in how stuff really works.

You aren’t weird, IMO. Unless I am too. Speculative fiction (scientific or magical) starts with interesting non-fiction.
