The American Prospect reported that several Democrats in closely contested districts would be voting for the ICE appropriation. “They’re terrified of being labeled anti–law enforcement,” an unnamed source told the liberal magazine. “They want this to go away so they can talk about the cost of living more. Problem is, it’s not going away.”
So these are the dems the centrists keep telling me to shut my mouth up and vote for.
TAR
FEATHER
TORTURE
Is there some rule that the news never name or link to bills & their votes so we can look up comprehensive information? It appears to be House vote 42 for H.R. 7147.
Only the most conservative Democrats voted for this. The vast majority voted against.
Vote All Votes Republicans Democrats Blue Dog Coalition Yea 220 213 7 4 Nay 207 1 206 4 Not Voting 4 4 0 They’re a big tent party with a number of factions, and Blue Dog Coalition is the most conservative caucus.
the Democratic leadership would not seek to whip the vote, now set for Thursday
That blame resides entirely with the leadership, not party members. This source, however, is entirely biased.
The Democratic leadership won’t block funding for ICE because it regards both ICE and DHS as a whole as critical parts of the machinery of the capitalist state, which they, like the Republicans, uphold and support.
ICE is already overwhelmingly funded by last year’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Simply defeating this new bill won’t cut funding.
Trump’s persecution of immigrants is deeply unpopular, and more Americans favor abolishing ICE entirely than allowing it to continue its vicious operations, according to recent opinion polls.
Abolishing ICE is a loser: the people still voted for immigration enforcement. Abolishing offices & agencies doesn’t repeal laws people still want enforced, and whatever enforces immigration & customs regulations is logically called immigration & customs enforcement, ie, ICE. It makes as much sense as demanding abolition of all abused offices & agencies, and the Trump administration is abusing them all, especially the presidency. Should the US abolish the office of the president, too?
Moreover, abolishing a corrupt agency doesn’t end the executive’s power to corrupt more agencies. This is like getting mad at the stick instead of the person beating you with it: there are a lot more sticks!
A more logical answer here is to repeal Trump era changes, restrict the executive’s authority, impeach abusive administrators. While Democrats need more liberal & progressive votes than they have to do that, the liberals & progressives are clearly voting to oppose ICE.
It’s planned in advance–they decide that they want the funding to pass and decide who will take the heat and vote for it–those in safe re-election districts, and just enough of them for it to pass. That way the rest of them can say “who me? I voted against it!” But except for maybe a few who really were opposed, the rest of them all agreed to pass the bill.
When Americans ask for the social safety nets we pay for Israelis to have were told it’s “Marxism”
We the American taxpayers pay for Israeli citizens to get free universal healthcare, a $400 payment per child per month until they are18 and free college.
Don’t worry we get a lot out of it because they are our"friends". Such good friends in fact that they funded Epstein and ghisline to run a child sex trafficking ring to blackmail our politicians. That’s totally something a friend would do not a hostile foreign power that wants to bleed us dry for their imperial ambitions.
- Tom Suozzi (New York) $369,205 from AIPAC,
- Henry Cuellar (Texas) $2,358,894 from AIPAC,
- Don Davis (NC) $3,768,859 from AIPAC
- Laura Gillen (New York) $ 109,718 from AIPAC
- Jared Golden (Maine) $1,004,505 from AIPAC
- Vicente Gonzalez (Texas) $266,213 from AIPAC
- Marie Glusenkamp Perez (Washington) $285,210
I see now why people keep saying “both sides”.
Maybe they wouldn’t have started this if elected, but I’d they’re happy to continue it, I don’t want to see them elected ever again.
They’re owned by the same evil oligarchs and a literal genocidal foreign rogue state https://www.trackaipac.com/congress
If the Democrats are too scared then maybe it’s time to go. They’ve been fattening themselve with corrupt money that they only know how to give up at the first resistance. There’s no strategy at this point, just a buch of headless chickens.
They’re not scared they’re bought and paid for.
Assholes
I love having arguments with pro-democrat Lemmy users for days before this, they’re coming out of the woodwork to say shit like “Dems would never have allowed any of this!” “They’re not perfect but they’re at least not in favor of Trump’s agenda!” and so on. (Odd that they always seem to appear in force in election years.)
I want to reiterate this all again:
the DNC has the same fucking donors as the GOP. THEY ARE THE SAME TEAM.
The pushback, the rhetoric, the speeches and stern-letters… it’s all Kayfabe, they want you to think there are two sides. It’s SO easy to act and pull this off and half ya’ll are children who can’t think outside of a two-sided narrative. You would have been addicted to WWE and argued it’s real back in the day.
Flush the contents of the DNC and elect new representatives broadly, every incumbent must go.
WTF? They’re concerned that voting AGAINST funding ICE would hurt their reelection? Who are they trying to impress? The 16% that think ICE is doing a good job? They should be concerned about the 84% that thinks they’re going to far!
“They’re terrified of being labeled anti–law enforcement,”
Any Dem that is thinking like that needs to go. ICE isn’t “law enforcement,” they are feral hyenas, preying on our nation. They are the Homeland Security version of DOGE, and they are a scourge on our nation. Any candidate that can’t make that case to their constituents, who are AGAINST ICE, is too stupid and ineffective to be a Representative. They are far more concerned about their own survival, than the survival of America. Primary them out.
We know that MAGA is destroying America, so any Dem that isn’t actively resisting them is complicit. This shouldn’t even be a thing. EVERY vote on a MAGA issue is an automatic, across the board NO, by EVERY single Democrat. No exceptions should be tolerated. This is a political war, and it is imperative that Dems be as united as the MAGAs have been for years.
Politics is a career choice for most of them. There is not an ounce of actual politics behind their performativity.
They’re doing what their owners pay them to do.
Fucking useless party. They are complicit.
A lot of people knew that in the 19th century, just not the americans for some reason
always has been

I’ve been calling’em Blue Nazis for awhile.
Seems their praxis meets their goals just fine.
Democrats are so fucking stupid:
- ICE is no longer law enforcement (if it ever was). They are Trumps roving gang of thugs laying siege to American cities. We don’t get to exist as a free society if ICE continues to exist.
- Don’t fucking talk about cost of living when you tried to gaslight us that everything was fine under Biden in 2024 AND tried to bury Mamdani last fall.
Transferring the whole ICE budget towards universal healthcare would go a long way towards addressing cost-of-living. The Democrats, however, want to keep suckling the corporate teat.
We need a new party, that isn’t Blue nor Red. Its mission: to get rid of the Trump Regime, and to create a voting system that protects our politics from Hapsburgian inbreeding.
- Especially since one of the dipshits that voted for this was Henry Cuellar, who was protected by the party against progressive challenger Jessica Cisneros. With their help, he eked out a victory in the primary of fewer than 600 votes.
AMEN
And kept De La Cruz and Greens (I know) off the ballots only in swing states.
they support this, because they still want the hand that feeds them,ie billionaires who also support the gop. also because they can use this as political capital to get elected in the next elections
Progressive Yanks, you got to stop taking prisoners. Burn this shit down.
You’re talking to plants
A vote for Schumer is a vote for Ted Cruz. Progressive or nothing.
A vote for anyone on this list is the same exact facist vote https://www.trackaipac.com/congress
Never voting for Cuck Schumer again
And the non-Americans here were asking why we hated the “opposition” party so much.
This is why there’s an uptick of unaffiliated Gen Z voters. They don’t want the toxicity of Republicans and want to avoid the weakness of the Democrats.
the oldguard DNC finally showed thier true colors as gop lite.
They have been showing their true colors since at least 2006, when they got a majority and congress went from being a rubber stamp for whatever GWB wanted to being a rubber stamp for whatever GWB wanted that made disapproving noises first.
Been registered as Independent since 2015. I was able to choose my ballots back then so I always voted Democrat. Then I moved, same thing. Democrats may have some party members that represent my ideals - surprisingly a couple of my own State’s Representatives - but the party as a whole can fuck off.
I hope the Millenial and Gen Z populace that is politically involved can actually bring unity to the DNC, but I don’t have faith when there’s 1 party that’s an umbrella for ideals and beliefs and 1 party that is wholly unified against non-whites and non-christians
Edit: I remember when I went to Uni, a few people invited me to a couple TPUSA rallies because of some of my hatred towards the DNC. I remember telling them hell no, because Democrats are mostly too conservative for me, so anything TPUSA represents is just vile
GenX they are all the moderators on Lemmy.world removing dissent comments and calls for action. That’s who they are. Center-right, 3 houses, great job, gonna inherit that boomer cash…. Your only hope is millennials and younger.
Edit: X
Some of us boomers are on your side. Not enough, but some.
I think we should just end social security and Medicare. I won’t ever get to use it at this rate so I shouldn’t have to pay into it. Let’s trim the fat.
Nice way to say, “f the generations behind us.”
Pretty sure all the generations behind me said fuck the generations in front of us. So, cry me a river grandma. ;)
Maybe it will be around in some form or fashion, maybe it won’t. While I am ok with Nietzsche, I am neither a doomer, nor a nihilist (although I have moments of weakness).
Did you mean Gen X as gen Z is in the younger than millennial camp.
Don’t get me wrong a specific subset of Z actually did get housing and good jobs because of their parents covid money but otherwise excluding that minority it doesnt match them and overwhelmingly matches the apathetic Gen X
lol yes sorry. Fat fingers
they pretty much are the same party, both of them, outside of AOC, bernie, and people zohran.
outside of AOC, bernie, and people zohran
These politicians are held up as the “crazy left” or whatever derogatory term the right want to use to paint the entire Democratic party, when in reality the DNC campaigns against them and does their damnedest to keep them out of positions of influence. Which is so fucking weird because they are wildly popular with their constituents.
i think someone on here or reddit mentioned the AOCs, bernies, zohrans of the DNC are there as a release valve for any criticism against the old guard, they have them elected so they can avoid a total take over of the dnc by the “left”
