The problem with being a billionaire is it makes you even more blind to your own stupidity than humans already are by default.

Musk never had interest in an affordable EV. His grift was convincing morons EVs should be expensive, and his cars were just expensive because he charged more. His target demographic is tech fetishist, who typically buy shiny toys and have no STEM education. They think it’s all magic. The Cybertruck was targeting the Jerry Rigs Everything types with pointless gimickry (of course he bought one, then sold it when the salutes started flying).

Even without his Nazi persona, Tesla had a finite life before other real car companies caught up. The S had not changed in 14 years, which is a long run with cars. The X has a stupidly expensive design with those pointless doors. Tesla really has no innovation to get people interested any more, all the best engineers left and Elon is a fraud. China has the supply chains on EVs locked up because the world was asleep at the wheel.

So Musk is just a typical tech bro. Tim Cook’s products are the same year after year, Zuckerberg’s ideas have been one flop after another.
The US tech industry has been stagnant for years and now throwing the hail mary of AI and butler robots. It’s fucking OVER, and the only way to keep the Palo Alto beast alive is government corruption.
