I recently discovered Bookwyrm and am really liking it. It’s not quite as full-featured as The Storygraph or Goodreads but it covers all of the most important functionalities and it’s federated which I appreciate. Something that it is missing Vs either The Storygraph or Goodreads at the moment is volume of reviews (ie. Volume of users.) However, your review won’t get lost in the sea so much and I’ve found that it’s been quite easy to find readers with similar interests.

Anyway, who here is using Bookwyrm? What’s your account so we can all follow each other? (Mine is [email protected])

I’m like that with The Storygraph. I’ve followed you!

Thank you! I’ve just gone in and updated my reading over the last few months. And followed you back!

I haven’t heard of Bookwyrm (I’ll probably check it out after this) but since you mentioned it, I did want to take this opportunity to shout out The StoryGraph! I’ve not seen it being talked about much, unfortunately, but I’ve been using it for a while (even made an account, which I didn’t use with Goodreads), and so far I really like it and have nothing bad to say!

I’ll second StoryGraph! When I’ve decided to start tracking my reading I was considering what app to use and felt that Storygraph is better for my needs than Goodreads.

I really like their suggestions system, and I feel that it only got better with time.

I do have that too! Just collecting all the book social sites like Pokémon.

heard of it. will add myself in a minute as soon as I take a second to whine about it not having either a) unhide password or b) type your password in again. Cause thats rude. I do have a storygraph tho. Oh wow. My two letter username got approved. Neat!

I signed up for bookwyrm (https://bookwyrm.social/user/JaymesRS), but these Goodreads alternatives all have one flaw that keeps me from using them.

I’m utterly terrible at remembering to actually update these and rely on Calibre to do it for me automagically. As soon as anyone has that ability outside Goodreads, I’m there.

I just heard of it, still keeping up with Goodreads. Kinda hard to swap after so many years

Definitely hard but the import feature is pretty good. I don’t see myself deleting my Goodreads account though it’s too hard to let go.

I’m going to try it out either way to see if it sticks. I’d like to completely turn to decentralised alternatives.

It does have a decent-ish user base already but nothing near the level of Goodreads or The Storygraph. I hope it continues to grow though!

I’m checking on Bookwyrm here and there, but I don’t use it. It lacks too many features. I love Stats page on Storygraph and moods and content warnings are useful for me too. My hope is that Bookwyrm gets better, because I would like to use it. SG is my home for now, they didn’t do anything bad yet and as far as I know it’s only a couple of people who want to build an alternative to Amazon owned Goodreads.
