Right where it belongs
The composition is flattering to the figure. The use of arrayed colored pins directs the viewer’s gaze to flow in a smooth arc that allows for one to gain insight into the artist’s vision and intent. The stark contrast of the ivory shroud to the backdrop makes a symbolic statement about the detachment of the Jesus from the material world and his purity. The facial expression, added effortlessly but with great talent and skill, gives the viewer a sense of serenity within the Jesus. The addition of a beard confronts the acceptance of western ideals of white-Jesus and this challenges the white-washing of Christian roots.
