Infuriating as I can’t read a thing. Every time I stop to read new posts just bump it down and it’s gone. How to edit this setting? Please help - new here. I want to like it but this isn’t working so far.

I hear using the app Jerboa works. I’m finally going to install it now. Also, the devs are aware of the problem and will fix it soon :)

Ok well that’s awesome news. They should fix that before they start trying to bring redditors over… It’s going to chase away the average joe

Other than a few people who work for Reddit, basically everyone was blindsided by Reddit doing the API thing with such short notice. There’s all of like two people developing Lemmy, one also is responsible for the Jeroba app and I think the lemmy.ml instance, and thousands of people just showed up and started trying to use various instances including having so many people sign up for Lemmy.ml it had stability issues. Apparently Reddit managed to hug itself to death during the Digg Exodus, it’s not a big surprise it’s happening here too and I think Reddit was a bit bigger than Lemmy when shit hit the fan on the previous platforms. There’s some growing pains and some problems to work though, but the big ones like the scrolling thing will likely be solved fairly quickly.

I use Jerboa and have this refreshing issue much less than I did with the browser interface, but it does still happen occasionally. It seems to be related to my Internet connection - if my phone switches between the shitty cell service at my house and the only slightly more reliable home wifi, the thread I’m reading (or community I’m viewing) refreshes as soon as the connection is reestablished.

Idk what to do about that except be patient for more stability in future versions 🤷 if I understand the situation correctly, we’re using barely-beta stuff here on Lemmy, there are gonna be some hiccups. The general vibes of the various communities I’ve interacted with here has been so fucking awesome that I’m willing to deal with the hiccups, I think it’s totally worth it.

Pretty sure that is resolved in the next update, you can try to browse without a login from the lemmy.ml instance, they’re using a pre-release version of the next version :)

If you go to all change the url to say page/0 instead of page/1. That is a current workaround. It will be fixed in the next update of lemmy though .

You can stop the page from loading before it finishes loading. Unfortunately not much other solutions for the moment. I personally use the “Subscribed” sort to only see posts from my subscribed communities. Which usually cuts down on rapid fire loading in of New posts. But it depends on how you sort too.

I believe the devs are working on solutions to this. Bear in mind this isn’t a major corporation with dedicated full time teams of software developers and engineers at their disposal. This is all being done by a few dedicated people that were not anticipating the levels of daily users that Lemmy has started to see. Its going to take them some time to adjust to changing conditions and user feature requests.
