Wasn’t to hard of a choice after realizing i could go on a $30/mo spending spree on Steam every month…and get to keep the games… and get to not pay it every month if life gets a little hectic.
Yeah… this just happened… as if it isn’t them who have made it more expensive…
I learned my lesson long ago, I don’t fall for the subscription scam anymore. They only thing guaranteed with a subscription is that the “service” will get worse and more expensive.
Such is what happens to every subscription eventually.
I don’t do subscriptions anymore if I can help it. It’s like a drug dealer luring you in with a sample and then they bump the price as you get more attached to it because they know you don’t have other options and in these cases, they remove those options as their subscription increases.
With the prepaid live gold cards and gold to ultimate 1:1 conversion rate, game pass had really great value. I played quite a number of games that had flown under my radar over the ~4years I was subscribed.
Obviously I bailed, since they killed all conversion enticements and price hiked it to ludicrous levels.
It was glorious.
Microsoft Rewards were also at their peak. I cashed out my 450,000 points at the end of last year. It’s not worth the effort for me anymore.
I’m sure microslop can do better, remove half the titles, 2 minutes forced interactive ads randomly every 5-25 minutes. And then every 3 months you can play a mini game to win a free month, but only if your ad-game score is high enough.
I see you may have been inspired by the new and improved Microsoft Solitaire Collection.
Much slower than the rest of us, but at least they figured it out!
I guess there were enough people like me that went from the $20 plan to the $15 plan or completely cancelled, instead of just accepting the increase.
Microsoft hiked the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to $29.99 per month last year, a massive 50 percent hike.
$360 a year for all the games you want to play, but you don’t walk away with anything is only worthwhile if there’s a huge rush of new games all being added day 1.
Like, I had it for a while before the price jump, and at $15/month the annual COD and a handful of games you like but not enough to buy made it worth it.
But COD sucks, and there’s not many good games releasing at all, let alone available day 1 on game pass.
I most likely would have cancelled by now even if it was $15.
For the math to work out, they need to have a couple of the big “annual games” but if people stop playing them, they stop paying for game pass immediately.
So Xbox needs to make all that shit “in house” and understand that if the deal is decent, no one is buying the annual games. They’re competing with themselves at this point.
Would have been better off to build up their own titles exclusive to game pass then co-opt existing ones that are available elsewhere…
Yeah, I’m not coming back to XBox, even if they drop the price to $1/year. I don’t have any faith in whatever Project Helix turns out to be.
