How is the game performing on the PS5? What were your expectations, and how were they met?

Also, what size screen & res are you playing on and in what room?

Playing exclusively in co-op, it’s a bug fest.

A major character was invisible all through his introductory cut scene. Random voice acting cuts out. Both players can have cut scenes going at once, but only one will get voices.

Some of this has not been thought through properly at all. IMO, important cut scenes should automatically play full screen for both of you. When you sleep, sometimes there is a cut scene that’s very similar for both of you, playing on both halves of the screen. There’s no way to full screen this, and one player isn’t going to get voices again. This would have been better as a single cut scene featuring both players.

Performance is fairly poor as well with large (2-3 seconds) pauses when swapping characters, or summoning things. It seemed to start doing this after 15 hours or so.

The menus are clunky as all hell. Want to know what that mysterious debuff does? Good luck with that. R2, up, X, L1, L1, down, down… oh it’s faded off.

Edit: Also, your username is overlaid at the top left of the screen at all times, right where all your roll info and character likes and dislikes appear, making it hard to see them. The tutorial also didn’t work, but that seems to have been fixed with the patch released today.

Edit: As of the 22rd September patch, the performance is massively improved.

Really disappointed the screen is always split. In their previous games, Larian would merge the two screens into one when both players were in the same location. It made the game easier to see and understand what is happening. As it is, it’s hard to follow the story in local coop

I think resting for the night is the worst for this, since you can’t actually make it full screen again for the cutscenes (giggity) that sometimes play.

Like how hard would it be to play them in turn if they’re different, or just have a shared one for the other scenes that are practically identical?

I mean, I appreciate the effort in making a co-op game (they’re very thin on the ground), but it’s a very iffy experience all round.

That sucks! I have never even seen footage of split screen co-op. Anyone else playing split screen on the PS5?

Is there a good way to report any of this on the PS5? I feel like Larian maybe knew they needed the extra time on the platform, and I hope they are busy squashing some of these issues. I’ll keep an eye on the patch notes.

Are you going to keep playing?

I’ll persevere for now. I’m going quite slow (still in act 1), so hopefully the hitching will be cured at least by the time I reach act 3 which is where all the major performance issues happened on PC.

In the original games you have to stop if your friend starts a conversation during co-op.

I don’t know what my point is.

The overall performance is good other than some occasional bugs. If you hit dash there’s a weird delay before you can move the target around. That’s the only fairly consistent performance bug. I can’t compare it to PC. Overall I’m quite happy with it.

    I’m on a non-4k 46” TV in the bedroom.

I guess all I can hope is that you don’t have to dash often? Thanks for the info.

I just realized I might have to start keeping bug fixes for PS5 as well. We’ll see…

Solo here. It’s fine, not great.

There are times where after inputting an action it takes a while to register. Mostly with summons especially magic hand.

Load times are fine, fast travel load times are typically pretty good within the same act region at least.

It’s crashed fully once in 25+ hrs. But there have been a few bugs where I couldn’t interact with something or I couldn’t select a menu choice (like examine). Most of the time these are fixed by restarting the console.

Been playing for about a week now, on-and-off. Game performs well most of the time. Got some glitches here and there:

    • Sometimes actions don’t register properly; I can only move the camera around until the game executes whatever. Takes 10 seconds or so and then all’s good
    • Some rendering issues: there’s a scene where an Illithid can be inspected, but it’s not displayed
    • I once shoved a goblin of a ledge with SUCCESS, but wasn’t shoved until another turn has passed. Therefore, the goblin had an extra action against me.

Anyway, I’ve been really enjoying everything so far!

I’d like to know as well. A couple reviews I saw online said it performs quite well. And past experience with divinity series is pretty reassuring.

Yeah, I’ve been playing on PC since early access, but I can’t imagine firing this up for the first time on a PS5. Wild times.

I did play with a PS4 controller for about 30 minutes, which felt AMAZING.

      • I played the whole game on PC with my PS5 controller and it was only ever an issue in one particular spot where I couldn’t get the cursor to hover over a thing to activate a switch and open a door. It was super minor, and didn’t even need to go through the door, but that was just a spot I noticed it.

I was counting down the days for this to release on ps5 and then the weekend before it came out I finally pulled the trigger and brought everything to make a new PC. Now it’s out on ps5 and I am waiting for all the parts to come in and still haven’t gotten to play it… last part comes tomorrow so I hope to finally dive in later this week. At least I get to play it with less bugs.

I’m playing on a 65" 4k OLED with 5.1 surround sound. It’s awesome on the PS5! I have the PC version too and movement and the camera are a lot better on PS5. Inventory management is better on PC, and some world interactions are easier. The graphics are more detailed on my PC with a 3070 ti, and load times are considerably faster, like 5x faster, but I still prefer playing on PS5.

Edit: there have been a few times on PS5 where particles don’t load. I walked right into a poison cloud because it wasn’t visible on the screen once, and another time some ambient SFX were missing. One time one of the characters was missing her armor and hair. That was funny. But those experiences have been far and few in-between, and a restart fixes it.

So far it performs well, but I only just started and am a couple of hours into act 1

Playing on a 77” 4k OLED in my living room.

I have a Marantz A/V amplifier witha 5.1.4 speaker system. Can’t wait for the next PS5 software update that will finally add Dolby Atmos support.

There are some weird delays when casting some spells and sometimes in dialogue, the armor stays low res for a second, but other than that, I had almost no bugs or perfomance issues. One funny bug I had was a defeated githjanki standing around idling instead of being dead (I could still loot him). The game also looks much better in 30fps and due to fighting being turn based 60fps isn’t really necessary anyway. Concerning expectations, they were really high and I’m still constantly blown away by it. It’s probably the best RPG I have ever played certainly concerning depth of story and dialogue interactions (the only comparable game I can think of is Planescape Torment). The fact that you can talk to every single NPC (including animals and some corpses) and they reply with at least one voice-acted line and a cutscene is insane! Those lines also change according to your situation in the story. This is why I talk to every single NPC I meet, you stumble upon some sweet, tragic and funny little stories like that (and occasionally another quest). I’ve played 49 hours and I’m about halfway through. I’m already considering doing another playthrough immediately after finishing.

Performance are good. There are some weird delays here and there, but for me the most frustrating thing is the user interface and how you navigate it. Everything is slow and laborious. Every menù is a long list. I wouldn’t call the experience optimized for controller…

I’ll need to watch some PS5 streams to get an idea. I have no idea how this game would run on controller.

I did conjour a cat and run around for about 30 minutes with a PS4 controller on my PC, which was a lot of fun, but I was just dealing with the cat.
