So I am applying for jobs and there is this company i stumbled upon…in their job application they literally ask you for your grades in school. They require you have a Bachelors degree btw. So what the fuck? And they also require you to justify why your grades are low if they are low. Bitch I am in my mid 20s with a degree, why tf my school grades matter? it is called “Canonical” and you can see the application on their website btw. Fucking idiots.

My grades are mediocre because beer was £1 a pint, and also because I’m a collection of competing neurodivergent systems.

There’s a reason Canonical is a massive player in linux space, but can’t seem to find anyone to work for them. An organization with thier mission intent would be a dream if they weren’t lunatics.

I’m 40 now, with a master’s. I applied for a job where they asked for my undergraduate transcripts. I had them on hand, but I almost laughed the employer out of the proverbial building.

What bearing would my course work from checks notes 17 fucking years ago (Christ I’m a geezer) have on anything? I’ve got 15 years of solid experience in my field. Gtfo.

Ubuntu Canonical? They are famously crazy with psychological tests. There are some horror stories on Hacker News about it.

I had to provide my high school and college transcripts for my job. I also had to list every job I’ve ever had along with the names of my bosses going back to the beginning of high school.

The application and interview were very difficult, but it was for a dream job so I didn’t mind.

They’re not asking for high school grades, unless you’re mistakenly applying for a scolarship or some kind of internship program, not a job.

Some job applications ask for GPA from your degree. I just leave it blank. It’s really only expected to be included if you’re a new graduate with little or no relevant work experience on your resume to show.

No, OP is correct - they literally ask for high school grades and then ask you to justify them.

How did you perform in your native language in high school?

I can’t think of a question that translates its stupidity perfectly to every fucking language and culture on the planet. Newsflash, native speakers speak their native language natively. What the fuck are they thinking?

I can tell this question came from a non-native speaker too because it uses “at” instead of “in”. At least as far as American English is concerned, you would use “in.” British English, can’t say, but I assume they call it secondary school, not high school.

But did you diagram sentences correctly, can you tell a noun from a verb?

You might be able to speak the language, but the school class is about understanding the structure of the language

I guess that’s a valid way to read their question, but why just that class? Why single out language studies specifically, as opposed to mathematics, history, the sciences, etc? And we’re still several layers deep in the rabbit hole asking those questions, when we have no good answer for why any of the high school classes are relevant to employment.

Wild, that’s a crazy red flag imo. Why would my specific grades from that long ago matter now? I can’t even remember much of high school, especially not my grades.
