The Alabama Republican Party said U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville will remain the party’s gubernatorial nominee, rejecting a claim on Sunday that he had not lived in the state long enough to run for governor.

The unanimous decision came after the party’s 21-member steering committee heard a challenge filed by Tuberville’s former primary opponent, Ken McFeeters. The challenge argued that Tuberville did not meet the Alabama Constitution’s seven-year residency requirement.

Why does the Alabama GOP get to decide on a constitutional matter such as this? Wouldn’t this be better handled by a judge?

It’s not been challenged as a constitutional matter. This is just the GOP saying that they’re gonna send him as their candidate.

Here’s McFeeters’ campaign statement, for those wondering. I was with him until he started throwing “globalist” into the mix left and right.

That is, I don’t know if the “small group of men [who] have controlled the creation of money, manipulated markets, and accumulated enormous power” are the same ones I’d be thinking of. Somehow probably couldn’t have been worse than Tuberville, though.

Edit: I also just want to say that McFeeters looks like Joe Biden’s deep-south cousin who’s also a mascot for grits.
