Tim Sweeney claims it’s a “Scarlet Letter” which makes players “try to kill the game”
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has criticised rival Valve for forcing studios to disclose when they use AI in game development.
Epic recently showed how it was integrating AI into Unreal Engine 6.
Tim Sweeney said:
“If you want to launch a game, and get it as widely publicized as possible, you’ve got to put it on Steam so people can wish list it, and if you want to play it on Steam, then you have to get this Scarlet Letter of AI attached to your product, and now there is a hater community trying to kill the game.
“I think it’s really irresponsible of Valve. They shouldn’t do it, because it makes it much, much, much harder for a game developer to have a chance of success. You have to choose from either not using tools that can make you way more productive, and probably failing due to competition that does.”
Which is totally ignoring the factor that the user should know about the purchase it makes and be able to decide for themselves. Transparency for the player is not a bad
Tim Sweeney is a piece of shit nazi and pedophile defender. he is upset because he is putting AI into Unreal Engine the way Microsoft is putting Copilot into Windows. His own stupid decisions are going to make the entire engine anathema to gamers.
Another example that Valve is in a dominant position not through exploitation but the fact that they run a business people actually want to interact with, and the competition keep shooting their own legs off.

If you think AI is awesome, what’s the issue with disclosing it? Is because you’re scared people will disagree with your ethical choices?
Such a self own. It should be anyone’s interest to disclose if something has AI in it or nah, no matter whether you like or dislike AI.
The problem with discussing it is they paint a target on their back for the misinformed mob to target with their irrational hatred.
Think about it - if it were really that bad, you should know AI was used without needing disclosure. The fact that you do shows AI-use is a total non-issue, but it’s the latest target for the hate-filled mob. Admitting you’ve used AI is like wearing a pro-Palestine shirt to a Trump rally.
If “consumers” wanted AI slop, they would buy your game. Labelling it is not the problem, it’s the fact that they can’t hide it to screw over disserning buyers.
The label on steam thst states that the game needs an online connection does not seem to bother that many people, Tim.
If it were actual slop you would be able to tell without the disclosure. It’s the fact that you can’t that shows how ridiculous this manufactured controversy is.

If it is the future of game development to use AI, and it is so fantastic for productivity and so on, then why is it a problem to label it on the store page?
