In the US, about 72 million adults, roughly 27% of the population, do not have dental insurance.

Reading this, suddenly it dawned on me. US Americans are obsessed with their teeth, using whiteners and straighteners to make sure their teeth are in perfect order. US Politicians, journalists, tv hosts, famous personalities- they all have prefect teeth. In other parts of the world, teeth are ok but never perfect, some have teeth that are a bit crooked, and having stained teeth isn’t a sin either. BUT in the USA the quality of your teeth distinguishes you from the poor, it’s a class symbol: perfect teeth: you’re wealthy, flawed teeth: you’re a poor sucker. End of sermon.

I never got braces and regret it. I’m definitely feeling the effects of a misaligned bite decades later. I’m not obsessed with my teeth.

i got braces and i was fortunate. they ended up moving back a little a few years after my braces came off, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it could be.

I got orthodontics because a cross bite was making it hard to chew properly without biting myself.

You may be thinking about veneers though, USians are obsessed with veneers.

Kids like this give me faith in the future. I hope they don’t all end up in camps.
