Growing up, my cousin and I were like brothers, closer than either of us were to our actual brothers.

In 2012, depressed and in pain, he decided to depart this mortal coil.

I rarely drink anything other than some wine with the gf. But twice a year, on his birthday and his deathday, I pour myself a glass of his favorite drink. He was born on the 4th of July, and would have been 40 today.

Today I’ll be having a Jack and Coke, in memory.

note: don’t feel down about this. I’m sad he’s gone, of course. But also, I generally toast something to the effect of “thanks for taking the easy way out and leaving me here, fucker!”, tongue planted firmly in-cheek.

Old school Sazeracs. Interesting drink in that it is really about the aroma, or the bouquet, or whatever you want to call it. The Herbsaint and lemon cloud just sits in the glass over the whiskey.

Whiskey! I love whiskey neat, but for cocktails I am loving watermelon habanero margaritas. With a tajin rim of course

Rye Kentucky mules. Got a local rye that’s really good, lots of ice, plenty of limes, and a few ginger beers, plus a proper copper cup to drink them from.

Started the day with bubbly. Ended it with gin and tonic with rhubarb bitters and a little lime. Think I’ll stick with that tomorrow.

Well I’m certainly not celebrating 4th of July. Got a nice wittbier in the fridge, and am planning on following it up with a spritz. Weather is a nice, rainy 20°C, perfect for a spritz lol
