Yeah, if you shoot someone in the back, you’re a criminal every time.
It drives me crazy when movies depict police yelling “STOP!” and then just start shooting at someone as they run away, without any narrative of how that police just tried to murder someone who wasn’t a threat to them.
That Hollywood normalization of murder had literally brainwashed the majority of people into thinking it’s acceptable and legal for police to murder people by shooting them in the back.
In any work set before 1985 this is likely to be accurate. Most states had laws on the books called “fleeing felon laws”, which specifically authorized law enforcement to shoot fleeing suspects in the back if they were suspected of a felony. SCOTUS deems that practice unconstitutional in 1985 (with some exceptions).
OK, so verry early buddy cop movies have a slight excuse. Modern day media does not
Saw just that in the new Apple show Lucky. FBI guy goes blasting away at 90lb girl who running away. Especially fucked up when his boss said not to pull guns wanted her alive. But most movies normalize it so that we will think it okay and normal.
Did the cop loose their job or face any criminal charges in the show?
Well no but he did get hit by a car that was sort satisfying. I thought he was killed but scene later revealed he in hospital hurt but would survive but never be a field agent again.
At least there’s a happy ending to his murderous rampage in the story
You know what else shouldn’t happen? The existence of ICE.
ICE is a rogue agency headed by a rogue administration and no one aside from some courts and a few Congressmen are doing anything about it. In fact Congress has given them tens of billions of dollars with no oversight. This is the darkest timeline.
They’re going to turn into rape gangs soon.
They already are and sadly its been happening for years

ICE is begging for civilian millitia oversight
So they can shoot them again?
Oh God, the expert is ex NYPD.
You have to *really" fuck up to get criticism from NYPD…
The punishment for fleeing police can never and should never be getting murdered.
Jesus Christ, they’re criticizing them for poorly placing the car. Not for shooting at someone who is not posing a threat (running away)
A more appropriate headline:
An ICE [fascist paramilitary] fired at an SUV fleeing [an unmarked] car stop in Pennsylvania. That’s not how it should happen, policing experts say [because it endangers everyone]
Hah, you think those ICE officers give a shit about what experts say?
Maybe just run them down if they are gonna just shoot you.
