I’m probably polling ahead of Susan Collins at this point, and I don’t live within 500 miles of Maine and am also a complete nobody.

I think she’d currently be losing to a few of the more devastating mosquito-spread diseases if they somehow congealed themselves into a human and ran against her.

Lol exactly. “Amoebic dysentery leads Sen. Susan Collins in new poll” to the surprise of absolutely no one but Susan Collins.

Gideon was polling ahead of collins too.

Collins has been a big contributor to Maine for decades, she’s tough to beat. I’m pulling for Jackson, but remember Mainers went for Kamala and Collins by safe margins. Vote, donate, tell your friends - nothing feels safe this November

You have the preemptive /s, but no preemptive TLDW? I’m 2 minutes in and still have no idea what the point is.

Oh CNN is already pumping out hand-wringing anti-Jackson pseudo hit pieces.

He threw a waterbottle in a session about prescription drug prices and another senator took that personally…

I am of the horribly misogynistic opinion that we shouldn’t throw things at women when they disagree with us in public

Falsely imprisoning a girlfriend in a drunken rage and rape are fine, but you draw the line at a water bottle?

Unfounded allegations based on “memory recovery” (hypnosis) and published without an ounce of journalistic integrity in a bipartisan co-ordinated “flood the zone” wave versus attacking a woman in a crowded room and verbally berating women so much that your entire campaign was staffed by dudes before Chuck Schumer had to fly in women staffers from DC just to help save those optics

Killing civilians in Afghanistan isn’t unfounded though.

I find your dedication to Platner as an individual fascinating.

Platner was definitely a crypto fascist larping as a progressive. Maine almost ended up with a Fetterman for governor.

Personally my bet is closer to him being a political progressive but with a lot of skeletons and some demons. Which is fine interpersonally but it could have caused issues such as blackmail and acting like a rat if it started coming out. Probably wouldn’t have been a problem if he cleared everything out first but folks often don’t do that due to shame.

Back to where we were a month ago in one individual poll with an even worse candidate. Congrats on the win Chuck!

      an even worse candidate.

Worse than a man who openly regretted not being able to fight in Vietnam and kill Native Americans for the US?

Worse than a man who was a private security contractor for Blackwater?

      Worse than a rapist?

      Really?

Troy Jackson is a prominent Maine politician and former logger who served as President of the Maine Senate (2018–2024). His notable achievements include securing free school meals for all Maine K-12 students, lowering prescription drug costs, and pioneering a plan to build the state’s offshore wind industry while protecting union jobs and marine fisheries.

I’m not the person you asked, nor have I been going around defending Platner, but I have to admit that I don’t know what to believe. Between so much bullshit and disinformation floating around in general (especially against progressives/socialists), and remembering what happened to Al Franken in particular, it’s all too conveniently-timed and politically-motivated for me to trust the accusations.

I’m not going to go to bat for the guy (especially since it’s a moot point now anyway, obviously), but I’m not going to join the character-assassination dogpile either.

Both sides use this to diminish and dismiss valid claims. Replace progressives/socialists with conservatives and it’s the same argument I see against the sex crimes on the right.

I’m not going to get into too much detail because I’m pretty fucking tired of this conversation these days, and as you pointed out it’s a moot point in this particular case, but we on the left need to step back and recognize that there’s issues with believing women on our side as well. That intersectionality exists and that there are many, many people on the left that have no idea what our rape culture has allowed to continue with regard to how we treat women. And that ignorance is not acceptable.

These claims against Platner are actually really credible. There’s quite a bit of evidence. I see a lot of this “I don’t know, maybe, maybe not, I didn’t look into it, I don’t know what the details are” as a defense to shrug this off.
