In my defense I was a big fan of pygmy hippos before so I had seen my share of cute pygmy hippo photos before.
It’s always interesting to see how what kinds of things go viral change with the times. The recent trend of cute or weird animals becoming internet-wide mascot sensations for a while before moving on to the next one says something about our current cultural moment, but I’m not sure what exactly.
So sorry that a literal miracle of nature wasn’t enough to entertain you for 10 seconds.
(I don’t blame you. You’re allowed to like what you like and to not like what you don’t like.)
Scientists commenting on Jimothy have said before that there’s nothing in his condition that presents a setback in survival.
Lots of food available where Jimothy lives, but hard to see how he isn’t at a disadvantage with the coyotes in the area.
Raccoons, especially in Seattle, are not typical prey for coyotes.
Coyotes don’t really have typical prey,
It’s not that they’re atypical prey for coyote, it’s that Coyotes are atypical in urban areas. It’s not impossible for one to get him, not impossible for one to be in the city, just not a typical situation.
There are rooftop packs of coyotes in Ballard.
He does “being a mini-raccoon”, and he does it better than anyone!
