There was a reddit scandal last year where the mods of the ChangeMyMind sub agreed to let an AI lab research what arguments people on the sub found persuasive by writing fake responses. Claiming to be from an impacted group turned out to be a top persuasion factor.
It’s not like it gets a majority of people. But if you can peel one percent off with one campaign, then those people’s connections can start to see that side of the argument as more human due to the in-person exposure, and the next campaign can peel off another one percent - it adds up over time.

The only thing that would stand out as fake would be the name, but that’s only if you’re up to date on US politics enough to actually know the names well enough to sniff out a fake one. …and that level of familiarity would be a full time job!
