From all I can find, there was one incident at the Pittsburgh Zoo where a toddler got into the dog enclosure and was killed, and I saw a comment of a teen that left a safari after a fight with his family and was killed after wandering into a pack, but I didn’t have time to very that, so at max there are 2 incidents of them killing humans.

Meanwhile there are less than 7000 painted dogs left in the wild, and they are still killed by cars, accidentally and on purpose, by poachers and ranchers purposefully killing them, and by diseases spread by domestic dogs and human caused habitat destruction.

The dogs know humans are not prey, and we are a much greater threat to them. Their reputation has led to ongoing persecution, but it does not seem deserved, at least in regards to us. While they are technically a great danger to us, it does not seem to be the reality.

Edit: I took your comment as sarcastic, it didn’t seem outright mean to the dogs. I think it’s more important to discuss these matters than to just downvote people if they aren’t being rude.

I work hands on with animals and still find I have a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings. I was a bit surprised to find painted dog attacks are so low, as they should be more than capable to do a lot of damage to humans, but it seems their pack logic is high enough for them to know the risk outweighs the reward.
