I did my rebuild before January 2025 cause I thought DJT was going to fuck up world trade, I underestimated how shitty the AI Bros are.

I have 16GB of VRAM too, baybee.

I’m currently in the middle of building a ITX machine for my partner so she can play games with me. Ran into a mate of mine the other night who due to a mix up at the retailer had a spare 16gb kit of brand new DDR5-5200 and was looking at selling it on Marketplace. He fucking hates Meta (good bloke) and said for mates rates he’d give it to me for AUD $200 just so he didn’t have to reinstall Facebook.

Fucking sold. Same kit is currently “on special” for $369 on the site he bought it from. Prices are fucked.

For me it was just concidence that I got my work laptop before the prices went up. I cannot imagine what I would be using for the same budget a couple of months later.

I bought a macbook pro m5 max with 128gb ram in June before the most recent 20% price increase

Decided to go for it at that time as I wanted to experiment with running LLMs locally and as a hedge against rising RAM prices

256GB of DDR5 and a 80TB NAS back in 2025 - although recently my NAS dropped a drive and I had to replace it, which was expensive.

Yeah… I built my wife a machine with 64 GB of RAM in ~October of 25 right before the prices spiked. Really kicking myself for not going all in and building a NAS setup at that same time. I can’t realistically bring myself to purchase 4tb hard drives or ram at this point - it’s too damn expensive.

I really want to go in for a nas, but fuck… I guess I’ll get by with my motley collection of external hard drives…

I got 32tb like a month before shit started blowing up. I didn’t really need it at the time but the price was good so I jumped on it. So glad I did.

Yeah…recently wanted to replace my aging 8TB drives in the server. Thought I’d probably get twice as much for the same price or the same way cheaper. Boy was I wrong and sad

Bought a new laptop in 2022 and the upgrade from 32 to 64gb was laughably cheap compared to the rest of the laptop, so I just did it for the fun of it

Nowadays I think I could buy most of the laptop just from the resale price of the ram
