Francesca Hong is Democratic frontrunner in four-way primary race to lead the swing state, a test of anti-establishment sentiment
Wisconsin voters will decide on Tuesday whether to nominate a democratic socialist for the state’s highest office in the latest test of an anti-establishment wave among Democratic primary voters.
Francesca Hong, a democratic socialist state lawmaker, emerged as the frontrunner in a four-way race to succeed Tony Evers, the Democratic governor who is not seeking another term.
Evers threw his support behind David Crowley, the Milwaukee country executive. Crowley previously left the race, before reentering it on 18 July.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee endorsed Cooke, which angered some local Democrats who saw it as interfering in a primary.
It 100% is interfering in a primary…
And the reason neoliberals have to use the DCCC and DSCC to interfer in primaries now, is because they no longer control the DNC and can’t use that to rig down ballot primaries anymore.
Neither organization has any power, they’re just making a lot of noise so people blame “the party” because the only chance a neoliberal has to be become president, is a corrupt DNC. And they don’t have that, so they need a DNC leadership changeover under any pretext.
The DNC hasn’t endorsed anyone, this one isn’t going to endorse anyone in any primary, but I’m looking forward to them endorsing Hong the second she wins
Are the dems having their tea party moment?
A progressive takeover would be amazing and maybe the only way to peacefully undue the damage caused by the current administration
You think they’ll leave peacefully?
Edit for clarity: they as in the current admin.
We will certainly find out shortly
They’ll likely do exactly what the Republicans did. They’ll try to fight it for a bit. They’ll see how unpopular they are with how much they were losing or doing jackshit. Some will convert and pretend they were progressives the whole time. Some will leave in disgrace. A few will join the Republicans or become independents.
They’ll try to stop the change, but they will have a hard time fighting the message of everyone deserving healthcare, housing, childcare, education, and food. Democratic voters typically vote for things they think helps people, just like Republican voters typically vote for things they think fights bad things.
To me, it’s hard to fight the message “You and everyone you know deserve free healthcare” with their message of “But don’t you love your private insurance???” Especially when literally everyone is making Luigi memes whenever an insurance company shows their fucking face. And when you look like a stupid dipshit, people remember that.
So, like, they did sort of cause this themselves.
Oh my bad, I see now that the “they” in my comment is ambiguous. I meant “they” as in the current administration and those backing it, not the DNC old guard.
Like progressives taking over the Democrats would be great but I doubt the current admin will go along with a peaceful transition if they get voted out (assuming it isn’t rigged such that it will never look like they lose an election again).
The admin is definitely trying to make their own little Stasi, but I genuinely do not think it is working for them the way they want it to. They certainly want to use the National Guards of other states because that’s easier to do. I just… don’t think they have the political capital to institute a successful coup? I could be wrong, and they’re DEFINITELY TRYING, but they would likely need someone other than Trump to lead something like that, and the only person I think has any sort of shot is, like, Tucker Carlson, who is certainly trying to leverage a presidential candidacy in 2028.
They’re trying, but they’re also very inept and corrupt, which is sort of a double edged sword, and, somehow most importantly but also not as important as I’d like, not a lot of people like them or their perpetual war to increase costs on everyone.
If they know what’s good for them, they will.
I voted for her and I’m excited to do it again in a few months.
I haven’t been genuinely excited for my options on a long time. Maybe ever. This is the closest.
Happy for you

Old school Progressive. His biggest mistake was not supporting Teddy Roosevelt’s Bull Moose Party [imho]
Her campaign is downplaying her being a DSA member (locally endorsed but not nationally which means a lot) and is walking back every bit of radical language she was using in favor of soc dem reformist positions. Talking down the possibility of radical change.
She is an opportunist who will be more of the same. People will learn eventually.

If Francesca Hong cared about a socialist movement she would be using her position to agitate the masses not whatever the fuck she is doing running as the left wing of the Dems.
I am uninterested in spelling people politicians who represent zero structural change to the fucked up systems we live under. I am interested in being honest about who they are and Francesca Hong is more of the same - working to extend the longevity of this system rather than seeking to build something larger to dismantle it
Mamdani walked back on defunding the police among other things and yet he’s killing it.
Ah yes just walking back one of the largest issues with the NYC mayorship - leading the largest standing occupying force in America outside of the military.
