I’m currently going through the junior year of my high school, that was 20 years ago exactly. It has been 22 years since my favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox, had finally broken their Curse of the Bambino in 2004. The Harry Potter main book series ended 19 years ago while the film series ended 15 years ago.
Most recently, hearing “Friday I’m in Love” when I stepped into the wawa was weird and disconcerting.
When I see a YouTube video I remember watching that’s like 18 years old or something
That all my fun symptoms are “just peri menopause” FML
you, writing that 2004 is 22 years ago
My 20th high school reunion is coming up…
The Xbox 360 will be old enough to drink in a couple months.
Being told that my girlfriend was probably too old to have children naturally - technically about her age rather than mine, but we were close in age.
A few years earlier, seeing people born when I graduated from high school graduating from high school themselves.
Or before even that, living longer than my mom had - she died young but I hadn’t really felt how young.
Last weekend I bought a switch 2, and a father and son were in front of me. I got the pokopia bundle, they got Mario kart. The kid was telling me pokopia was really good, and asked if I ever played Mario kart. So I told him the last time I played that was on the Nintendo 64 in like 1999 when I was about his age
The kid thinks for a bit, and goes “oh wow, I didn’t know you were an old lady!”
Ahahaha
In a way he kinda complimented you! You don’t look or seem old, at least 😆
Yeah, it’s sort of a compliment I guess.
Old meaning experienced gamer!
Ha. Similarly, I was at a big music festival a few years ago, taking to a random 20- something dude. I mentioned which bands I was there to see and he just yelled “YOU’RE OOOLD!” at me.
My kids keep asking me if I played the same games when I was their age (Mario Odyssey, Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, Ori and the Blind Forest, etc). I keep telling them that I played other sonic and Mario games, but these specific ones didn’t exist back then. They’re still confused about WTF sort of ancient historical time that was. Same with their Android tablets and asking me if I had one as a kid.
Similarly, I heard a kid call the Xbox 360 “vintage” the other day. I started to argue that it’s not that old. It only released in… (Checks release date)… 2005? Oh shit it’s over 20 years old. That’s the same as child-me considering the NES vintage when I was playing my PS1.
The PS1 came out 10 years after the NES not 20. So you considering the NES vintage in the latter half of the 90s would be like considering the PS1 vintage when the Xbox 360 came out.
Snoop and Eminem are grandparents.
Ugh, okay, that hurt
About 15 years ago I started hearing Nirvana on classic rock stations.
A few years ago I started to hear “Guns n’ Roses” songs in the local supermarket (think Walmart but in France). I almost vomit.
I remember Modest Mouse getting big and thinking at the time that it was for the generation after me. Just a few years ago I heard Float On in the grocery store. Real circle of life moment.
I paid a couple kids to shovel my sidewalk. That was the moment I knew I was old.
With age came wisdom
And cash.
And back pain.
Realizing it’s been 10 years I graduated high school. Or watching favourite youtube videos and it’s posted “15+ years ago.”
A lot of bands that I liked when I was in high school are now on 20th anniversary tours of their famous albums.
Also I saw a few Pokemon red 30th anniversary banners while in Japan
Dad dying didn’t help, but more and more it’s the simple fact that I need a little ibuprofen to get through the day without my knees hurting.
I finally really realized both that I am old and that I am mortal after both my parents died.
Got something you want to do? Get cracking.
Honestly, I’ve never felt old in my entire life.
But just from looking at me, most people cannot guess my actual age. Part of me is starting to worry that there’s a picture around here somewhere that I definitely should not look at.
