Oh good https://nohello.net/en/ is back up.

I write any messages like an email. I absolutely hate getting pinged, then wait for the reminder to get sent
Also, by writing like an email, you can do rubber ducky debugging. Saved my ass from multiple embarrassment
Rubber ducky is the way.
The amount of posts on support threads that I’ve written and then deleted because I realized the solution after typing it out, is crazy high.
As for the pinging though, I’m usually really good about not doing that. But I will admit I do selfishly ping a quick “hey” and then immediately start typing the question, sometimes. But only if the question is just a sentence or two, and only if the matter is urgent enough to need an answer quickly, but not so urgent that I should’ve just called.
Basically I’m trying to prime the pump by a few seconds, so by the time they actually get to their phone, after hearing the ping, my message will be there waiting. Instead of sending it all at once and then waiting.
Probably not cool, but, I really try to only do it when it feels necessary.
For me it’s more like:
- forced windows update. 3rd time this past week.
- main development software crach
- forced reboot after update
- explore crash
- slow windows 11 UI causing misclicks because menu didn’t load under 800ms
- Lenovo system update center forced updates
- WiFi randomly disconnected for the 8th time this morning
- explore crash again.
- onedrive not syncing the file my college put on the shared drive
- onedrve not syncing photos from my workphone because a sngle video i took last week STILL didn’t complete uploading
- crappy keyboard has sticky keys
- …
- I’m about to give up on tech
Honestly i just kill teams sometimes, at least when i’m in the office. If you want something, come over. Works fine so far
A lot of people on my team schedule focus time to be left alone.
- block off focus time on calendar
- set teams to do not disturb then close it
- shut office door (assuming not in a cubicle)
- engage noise cancelling headphones
- ???
- yay, executive function!
This is exactly what I do. Block off time and set to DND.
We talked about starting a dungeons and dragons game to play during all the horrible long meetings.
Not what you meant, probably, but the pun amused me.
No, just mark your calendar as dnd, play some dungeons and dragons, and if anyone complains, tell them that you made it quite clear in the calendar
This is why I hate MS Teams with the fire of seven exploding suns.
Me the moment I try to get anything done around the house or put my earbuds in instead of paying all my attention to my husband
